    What the gurus are saying

A clear formula that doesn't feel pasty or powdery, this serum earns praise for a velvety finish without the excessive matte or tight feeling some sunscreens leave behind. For warmer weather, the mild matte it creates actually helps slow oil production. The formula brings together squalane for hydration without heaviness, kakadu plum for vitamin C to protect against sun damage, and watermelon extract.

"I do really really enjoy the Naked Sundays Clear Glow Radiant Sun Serum. It's a bit less like powdery and pasty feeling compared to Unseen by Super Goop. Whilst I wouldn't say this hydrates your skin, the texture feels a bit more hydrating to apply as a clear cream, whereas Unseen by Super Goop feels like melted Vaseline. Then you're left with that really velvety touch and that is kind of the same as this, but I don't feel as matted down and tight on the skin. Having this really clear actually clear sunscreen that leaves me a little bit matte has been good especially with the warmer weather because I can apply this, it matters me like a little bit, not too much to the point where I dislike it, but then it kind of slows down my greasy, sweaty oil production. This has watermelon extract in it, squalane which moisturizes without being too greasy, kakadu plum again for vitamin C helping fight against free radical damage. The whole brand actually is cruelty-free and vegan across all their products and paraben-free."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
