What the gurus are saying

Gurus agree Morpheus8 delivers results comparable to competing devices, but operator skill is critical. The recurring complaint is pain due to larger needle diameter and fewer needles per tip. A major concern surfaces around improper depth application by less experienced practitioners, which can damage skin rather than improve it. Its two-layer targeting (skin and fat) appeals to some, though the lack of ultrasound guidance creates risk for misuse, especially on the face.

"In the patients that we tested it on, there was a lot less pain with Vivace than with Morpheus8. One of the interesting things is that there are more needles in the tips of the Vivace and there are fewer needles in the Morpheus8. The diameter of those needles are bigger in Morpheus8, so they're a little more painful."

"Morpheus8 is uncomfortable. You do have to go through topical numbing prior to this procedure. In the patients that we tested it on, there's a lot more pain with Morpheus8 compared to other devices. One of the interesting things is that Morpheus8 has less needles in the tips and the diameter of those needles are bigger. So the needles are bigger in Morpheus8, which is a little more painful when you have a bigger needle penetrating the skin. Morpheus8 can get down to eight millimeters of depth with a certain hand piece and that's going to target fat layers usually on the body. The hand piece that we use on the face goes down to four millimeters in depth. But you don't really want to be four millimeters in depth on the face anyway."

"In our clinical experience and when using these head-to-head, we believe that the clinical outcomes are similar if not exactly the same. We found that Vivace was more comfortable for us to use personally from an ergonomic standpoint, but also for our patients that we used it on. So we see no reason for anyone to be paying more for this device unless you're treating the body."

"With Morpheus8, if you're not having the right person to do it, they go way too deep, dissolve fat, and then it's creating laxity. So then you're going to have to call me to refill your face and then you're going to be upset because it's too full. Morpheus8 is not ultrasound guided, and I know that people are going way too deep because you think you're going to get better results and these estheticians are doing it the wrong way. It's going to create more damage than production of collagen."

"The Morpheus8 is a radiofrequency microneedling treatment. Small pins go down into the fat layer and it helps shrink those fat cells back together. One of the advantages that you have with the Morpheus8 is that it'll target the skin layer too. So if you don't want a laser and just want one treatment to treat your skin and the fat, Morpheus8 is great, it's got two in one, targets two layers, so you get a better result."
