What the gurus are saying

Gurus see real potential for skin tightening, texture improvement, and treating acne scars, especially for people with darker skin tones who may have fewer safe options. However, the verdict splits sharply on intensity: experts stress that shallow, moderate settings yield the best results with minimal risk, while aggressive depth or high energy can damage fat layers and cause lasting texture problems. The outcome hinges almost entirely on practitioner skill and proper numbing; those treated with strong anesthesia and conservative settings report satisfaction, while inadequate numbing or overly aggressive technique has left some with unwanted texture and prolonged redness.

"Radio frequency micro needling is not a bad technology. It's just very operator dependent. Although I would happily have superficial radio frequency micro needling done on me to keep my pores tight, to keep my skin glowy, I would not have deep radio frequency micro needling. The problem with a lot of these RF micro needling devices is they are found in med spas with very little supervision. There are a lot of people operating them that don't know how to pick the appropriate settings to achieve the aesthetic outcome that their patients want or they've promised their patient an aesthetic outcome that this type of device really can't achieve, namely significant skin tightening."

"Micro needling RF is my go-to tool when it comes to acne scars or stretch marks. If you have very deep scars or you're more mature, crossed 35, 40, you have scars and you have a little bit of sagging, it's a wonderful tool because it's radio frequency which is heating your collagen and tightening the skin and those needles are sort of breaking the fibrous bands and also making way for whatever solutions that you want to pour, whether it's exosomes or PRP."

"If you have darker skin colors, this may be the best treatment for non-invasive skin tightening for you because some of the other treatments can cause issues with pigmentation problems in people with darker skin. In my opinion, the gold standard for non-invasive skin tightening today is radio frequency micro needling, otherwise known as Morpheus8. During this treatment, you undergo micro needling where tiny needles are used to puncture the skin to a certain depth, but these needles are insulated all the way up to the tip of the needle, which emits radio frequency energy or heat. RF micro needling like Morpheus8 heats the deep skin by using radio frequency energy. With RF micro needling, essentially you're getting a twofer: the micro needling creates tiny punctures in the skin that can cause the collagen to tighten up and for the skin to be smoother and tighter overall, and the radio frequency heating of the deep skin can cause that skin also to tighten up in its own way. In my office, we do a lot of Morpheus treatments and we follow it up with application of exosomes on top of the skin, and we found that by applying exosomes you can reduce the redness afterwards, and some people find that within 24 hours their skin looks and feels almost back to normal."

"I'm not a big fan. And there's two reasons why. It has an insulated needle and it holds that heat. And it doesn't have a pulse wave. So it has a continuous wave. So that just means the energy is going this way and it's not going like this. I think those two factors, it's like a 50/50 with Morpheus, right? Some people love it, but it's literally like 50/50 and 50 don't like it. I think those two things make the 50 not like it."

"There's also Morpheus8, which is radiofrequency microneedling. I'm not a massive fan of it. I think it has to be done with the right practitioner. I think a lot of people are doing it where they're using high energy at the wrong depth and you're getting fat loss from it. I've heard bad stories about Morpheus8 but also some good stories, so I think it's very much practitioner dependent. In the right hands it can be good but in the wrong hands it can be bad."
Morpheus8: Dermatologists Explain Radiofrequency Microneedling Treatments (with Before & Afters!)
"It's a machine that does all this fun stuff, tightens your skin, makes you look amazing. You have to get it three times. It is hands down the most painful thing I've ever done. I literally bawled my eyes out, hated the whole experience. My other friends that have gotten it, they look stunning, amazing, their skin looks so tight. They also got laughing gas when they got it, so they said the pain wasn't that bad. I was only numbed, literally I was bawling my eyes out. I had to actually stop, I couldn't finish. The worst part is that for some reason my skin reacted in a strange way. You can see all of this texture on my forehead. You can see where the machine went in all over my neck. It's been three months and I don't think it's going away anytime soon. I would just say test your skin, do like a mini test, because this has been part of the reason I don't post on TikTok anymore because I look like I have goosebumps on my face. Pain is a very subjective thing, however there are certain places that I feel like don't numb enough or don't numb appropriately. If they're not using a numbing agent that is strong enough, or they're only using it for ten, twenty minutes, that is not enough in order to numb for this type of procedure."

"Morpheus 8 promise a lot and not deliver much. I have personally not seen a lot of patients with good results from Morpheus 8. If you're somebody who needs a lot of tightening, Morpheus 8 isn't going to get it done. That might be a surgical job. But if you're somebody who's just looking to slow things down or maybe prevent those wrinkles from getting deeper, Morpheus 8 might be your thing."

How to Tighten Saggy Skin from a Dermatologist! | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"Microneedling married to radiofrequency heat breaks the surface of your skin while delivering the heat underneath, and those are treatments like Morpheus. Too much of any of these things is going to be bad because too much can lead to fat melting which we don't want to really do, but just the right amount, everything in moderation. Slight consistency over intensity, and I say slight because every cosmetic procedure needs to be done lightly. Consistently done in moderation over time can make a difference."

"I've had the Morpheus 8, which is needled radio frequency that works deep down in the dermis, the lowest layer of the skin to generate collagen. You have to be really careful with the Morpheus, mainly because you don't want to go too deep, so we only did it at just 1mm."

5 Amazing Ways to Get a Facelift Without Surgery! Doctors Reveal
"Morpheus8 is fantastic for that, so radio frequency microneedling. What it does is it just shrinks that deeper fat layer because it goes down to 4 mm in the face. You have to be super careful that you don't destroy the fat layer because you could go the other way, but this is fantastic for contracting that fat layer. That's similar to what you're going to be doing during surgery because if you've got a lot of jowly fat, sometimes we liposuction the fat out of that area, so we take away fat and Morpheus8 can contract it. Just remember these non-surgical treatments are not going to do the same thing as surgery, but they're there to still give you an effect, but a lot more subtle. With the Morpheus8, you have the radio frequency, but you can also use a bit of ultrasound in that layer as well."
How To Have A Non-surgical FaceLift | Types of Non-surgical FaceLifts | Dr. Somji & Dr. Solomon
"With Morpheus, what you want to do is contract the skin. I find it's really useful for tightening loose skin and giving a bit more of a firmer look, and also reducing the amount of jowl fat that you have. It's not going to lift the face, but it tightens and the skin quality always looks better when you've had it done. I consider Morpheus to be almost like a superficial tightening, skin texture improvement. I don't think it is sufficient enough to contract and lift the lower layers, and I don't feel like it's very useful around the eye area. When you have the treatment you have a full face and neck and you get the benefit of everything, which is fantastic. You can have three to four sessions which can range from about 600 a session up to 1000 a session. You're getting that overall benefit and the glow, maybe a slight reduction of jowl fat and a little bit of tightening of the neck skin, but no change in the muscle. Around the eye area, there are other devices that are probably a lot better."

"Radio frequency microneedling like Morpheus8 is very different from microneedling because with radio frequency microneedling, the ingredient that is delivered is radio frequency, and that constricts blood vessels so it can help with people with rosacea redness, but it can also stimulate contraction and collagen production."
