  • Recent versions contain fragrance

What the gurus are saying

Plant-derived antioxidants like plum, carrot, eggplant and blueberry make this serum appealing for those seeking anti-inflammatory benefits. However, the formula's addition of fragrance in recent versions has put off some who preferred the earlier formulations, so anyone with fragrance sensitivity may want to check the ingredient list or stick with older batches if possible.

"I really liked the first two versions of this one, and then the most recent versions have had fragrance in it, so I haven't liked them so much. The one in the silver container, I think that was the borabit ampoule, and I really like that one, and they changed it too much. And then the most recent version had too much fragrance in it. I'm all for changing things and updating and adding new ingredients, but sometimes they make it worse for certain people or customers."

"In addition, this serum contains other great wonderful plant-derived ingredients, like for example plum, carrots, eggplant, blueberry, so basically plants rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory bioactives that help to support skin and repair and offer antioxidant benefits, help to fight off free radicals. And lastly, it contains what's called collager, which is a blend of seed and plant-derived oils, essentially help to improve skin texture and improve skin resilience."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
