What the gurus are saying

Gurus view this as an effective mild exfoliator comparable to mandelic acid, but diverge sharply on usage and suitability. One calls it really good for regular use post-cleanse; another warns against following package directions (morning and night) and cautions it may not be ideal for skin of color, recommending one to two times weekly instead. The core disagreement centers on frequency and whether it's appropriate as marketed.

"If you cannot find Mandelic Acid, then you can always opt for a PHA Toner, which is Polyhydroxy Acid. Very similar to AHA but belongs to a different family. You can get the Minimalist PHA Toner. I believe it's 0.3% concentration and a 3% concentration. It's really, really good. You can use it on clean, dry face after you double cleanse, and then you moisturize after."

"I'm happy for you to use this one to two times a week as a mild chemical exfoliator but please do not use the directions on this packaging and using morning and night. This is not really a toner I think they're just misbranded and mislabeled this unintentionally but for skin of color it's just something that I wouldn't recommend."
