What the gurus are saying

The experts who weighed in are clear: this is an unregulated black market substance with no legal approval in the US, Canada, or Europe, still in experimental phases. Beyond the serious safety gap (no verified quality control, unknown additives, or purity checks on what people are actually injecting), the gurus found it carries real medical risks, including accelerated sun damage, increased moles and sunspots, and significantly higher skin cancer risk, especially when combined with the required sun exposure. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and sexual dysfunction. The experts point out over-the-counter fake tanners deliver similar results without injection or these dangers.

"Melanotan 2 is a synthetic peptide that was initially developed in research for melanin production as well as appetite suppression, marketed as the Barbie drug because of its alleged abilities to give you a really bronzed golden even tan as well as help to curb any appetite. However, the reviewer has not seen a single person look good with their new tan, and everyone looks like they have a fake tan on, like Ross Geller from the tanning booth. Beyond aesthetics, melanotan increases melanin production and requires sun exposure to activate it, causing your body to create more sunspots and moles at a much faster rate, increasing risk of melanoma or skin cancer. It's very common for people when they first get on MT2 to experience nausea, upset stomach, vomiting, fatigue, face flushing, dizziness, and headaches. Melanotan can seriously mess with your libido, with a common side effect particularly experienced by men being painful, long-lasting spontaneous erections that won't go away. Additionally, you are purchasing an unregulated substance from a black market lab, injecting it into yourself without knowing what's in it, with no legally verified or authenticated safety testing to ensure quality, purity, additives or trace metals, or proper dosage. There is no peptide to reverse skin cancer. You can get the same results from over-the-counter fake tanning products without all the added side effects or having to inject yourself with a foreign substance."

"Melanotan 2 is actually a black market product. It is not available for use in Europe, Canada, or the United States. It's not technically legal for use yet, but people are injecting it under their skin as a way to make their skin darker. There are major risks that can be associated with this injection, including skin cancer. It's still in a testing phase. So it sounds like they're getting experimental melanotan 2 type of injections, which is something you should definitely stay away from. Don't do it."
