What the gurus are saying

Dermatologists in the community consistently recommend silicone-based products over Mederma, citing more reliable results. The recurring concern is that Mederma's fragrance can irritate skin and potentially worsen scars, offsetting benefits from hydrating ingredients like sodium hyaluronate. Expert consensus leans toward plain medical-grade silicone as the more effective alternative.

"I like silicone gel or silicone sheets more than vitamin E or onion extract with Mederma. Those have very mixed results to not impressive results."

"It has sodium hyaluronate, the salt of hyaluronic acid, that's very hydrating. It does have fragrance though, which again can be irritating and ultimately aggravate scars, so not like the best option. You'd be much better off with just plain medical grade silicone."
