What the gurus are saying

This lipstick earns praise for staying put through eating and drinking without drying out lips, though the shade you pick matters for how much you'll actually reach for it. Warm undertones like terracotta work beautifully on some people but may not feel like a natural fit for everyone, so consider your own skin tone when choosing your shade.

"I am still really happy with this Maybelline SuperStay Teddy Tint. This is the shade Coquettish. The longevity of this on the lips is amazing. As somebody who is always sipping on a beverage, this stays on really well, but it doesn't dry out the lips and it's easy to apply even without a mirror and not have it go all over the place. It doesn't get stringy. It doesn't get goopy. It doesn't get dry and like I need to put lip balm on. But it is tenacious. So I have to take the cleansing balm and put it on my lips at the end of the day in order to melt that off."

"It's much lighter and a little less tacky than the original Superstay liquid lipstick, but it has that same effect on the lips. It seems like it's still holding up really nicely and feels pretty comfortable on the lips. It's definitely a formula that I feel like I would wear if I want something a little bit more longwear. I ate a sandwich with it, too, and it didn't rub off. It's also pretty transferproof. I would say it's a good longwear formula. I actually really like it on the cheeks, too. The formula is definitely comfortable longwear. You do kind of feel it on the lips more than a lip balm or something like that, but that's to be expected with something longwear that's not like a stain. My lips feel comfortable still. They're not feeling overly dry or crusty, just balanced. They're also not super hydrated. It's something right in the middle, but that's to be expected with a more longwear formula. I like it."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
