"I also tried Maybelline's lifter gel lip oil in the shade Strawberry Shake. I do really like this formula, the gel gloss formula, it feels really luxe, just don't over apply it. It doesn't feel gloopy or heavy on the lips. I feel like the lip oil gel was really comfortable, that was one of my favorite things."

"I tried out this Lifter Gloss, another formula that I already love but I tried a new shade, this is Gummy Bear, this is the one that I'm wearing today and I love it. It's like the most delicious sheer jelly pink, it's so cute. Plus the name Gummy Bear is just like, ah, I love it so much. Great new color and a formula that I already know I love."

"I picked the silk in the Maybelline Lifter Gloss. [...] I actually had a lot of bridal clients, like moms mostly, who would look in my kit and they'd be a little bit sometimes like, oh well, what are you using because they thought it wasn't going to be good because of the price point. But I'm telling you it's not indicative of the performance because it's just unbelievable."
Here's the BEST Drugstore Makeup RIGHT NOW 😍
"When it comes to gloss, there's one that really stands out and that's the Maybelline Lifter Gloss. I know you guys have probably tried this before, if you haven't, it's such a beautiful formula, comes in so many gorgeous colors, so I highly recommend you check this out. Some of my personal favorite shades include gummy bear and petal. It doesn't feel sticky at all, it's such a gorgeous formula. I want to try the plumping one, I just saw that they launched a plumping version of this, which I think would be so fun to try out."

"I've tried this Lifter Gloss from Maybelline. It hasn't really stood up to my Neutrogena Hydro Boost hydrating lip shine. I like some of these shades, but I just found it kind of sticky and not very moisturizing, and I found the color didn't last as long."

SKIN CARE FAILS & FAVORITES FROM MAY 2022 😮 @DrDrayzday
"I was pretty excited to try this one, but it's very sticky, so if you have long hair it sticks to your face, which I don't care for. It doesn't last very long compared to the Neutrogena Hydro Boost lip shines that I like so much, it comes off pretty easily, and it's actually more on the drying side. While it markets itself as hyaluronic acid, I don't really get that same fullness and hydration, I find that this product is actually a lot more drying. It has a lot of other ingredients that give it more of a shellac shimmer look, which is nice cosmetically, but it doesn't really do the moisture piece which is what I'm looking for in a lip product. It does have fragrance, which can be a trigger for lip irritation, chapped lips, and dryness, though I do actually enjoy the flavor in this. I do like the doe foot applicator, it's more generous and lip sized than the Hydro Boost one. But for me it was just not a win, it didn't hold up well."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
