What they liked

  • Gentle spicule concentration, not overwhelming
  • PDRN paired with spicules for deeper penetration
  • Vegan PDRN option

What they flagged

  • Feels like trend-chasing rather than innovation

What the gurus are saying

The spicules work as tiny needles that push PDRN deeper into skin, and the brand strikes a balance: enough to help delivery without being overwhelming. This cream earns praise for the clever pairing, with hydrating collagen, soothing panthenol, and vegan PDRN all hitting the trending-ingredient marks. However, the formula leans into trends rather than innovation, gathering viral ingredients you might see from other brands.

"It's ticking all the boxes - spicules very popular, PDRN the most popular ingredient at the moment, collagen super viral, and Mary and May is a great brand. I think the spicules are really interesting because they're like little needles that push product deeper into the skin - they don't use a lot of spicules in this, so if you're somebody that likes a little spicule action but doesn't want it too intense, this is a good option. I love the fact that they've used the PDRN, which can struggle to get into the skin, so the spicules are going to help with that. Collagen is a great hydrating agent - this is going to plump and hydrate. I love that you've got panthenol to calm and soothe. The PDRN is actually vegan, so if you're looking for PDRN without the salmon, it's a great option. I think this is like PDRN leveled up. Mary and May knocked it out of the park. I'm impressed."

"This has that hydrating spicule sponge ingredient along with sodium DNA PDRN, so it's two of the biggest viral trends of 2025 in one product. I tried it last night and washed it out this morning and it's fine, but my biggest critique with this product is that this is just so SEO coded, chasing whatever's trending. I love Mary and May as a brand, but for me I just can't help wanting to see something new instead of the same trending ingredients repeated across different brands."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
