What the gurus are saying

The experts who reviewed it raise a significant concern: Maderma may be more likely to trigger an allergic reaction than deliver real scar improvement. One dermatologist strongly recommends skipping it in favour of silicone gel or silicone gel sheets instead, which have research backing and pose lower allergy risk. The product does contain allantoin, an ingredient with some scar-supporting potential, though the concentration used here is unclear, so anyone considering it may want to check the label and patch-test first given the allergy risk flagged.

"I do not want you to buy a fancy scar cream, Maderma or vitamin E or anything super fancy because I think you are more likely to get an allergic reaction to this cream than any benefit you hope to be getting to fade your scar. So if you want to put something topical on your scar, which is a good idea, I recommend silicone gel or silicone gel sheets. These are far less likely to cause an allergic reaction on your skin and studies have actually shown that they can help improve the cosmetic appearance of your scar. So if you want to grab something topical to put on your scar to help it along the way, ditch the Maderma, ditch the fancy scar cream and just grab silicone gel instead."
