What the gurus are saying

This spray melts powder and brings cohesion to makeup rather than locking it in place for extended wear, which matters if you are counting on true staying power through heat or humidity. Gurus praise it for softening an over-powdered look, refreshing makeup mid-day, and creating a more natural, skin-like finish, especially when dampened onto a sponge or brush before or after powder application. One makeup artist notes it will not stop oil breakthrough or extend wear time, so it works best as a texture enhancer and hydration boost, not a traditional setting spray.

"So, it it's a great staple because it makes foundation, it's so difficult to describe. It makes look complete, right? So, say you've done loads of powder and it looks too cakey. Fix Plus fixes. And not fix as in set down. Fix means as to repair, as to like to solve your problems. It is more of a finishing touch and it just makes foundation look like skin."

"If I was doing someone's makeup and they wanted to wear the powder foundation, I would go one shade lighter than their skin tone and then I would drench it in Fix Plus because it makes the formula, when you wet that formula, it makes it like a little bit longer lasting for some reason. It makes it more like this creamier texture but still with that beautiful matte finish of a powder. And because it does deepen a tiny bit, especially if you're oily and powders tend to oxidize on you and get a little bit darker, just go a shade lighter."

"MAC Fix+ is perfect for this. It's not a setting spray. It never was and it never will be. I don't care how MAC market it now. They add moisture, but they don't lock makeup in place for long periods. What they do is melting the product together. It's making everything more cohesive. It's making it more skin-like, so by using a hydrating mist, you can see it gives my skin a healthy glow. But it's important to know also that it's not going to do things like stop oil from breaking through or extend the wear time of your makeup."

"MAC Fix+ is not a setting spray. It doesn't set the foundation. It might help to refresh and make it look a little bit nice. Maybe you've overpowdered and it kind of brings all your foundation together. There's no long lasting properties to it. The reason I say that is, obviously, I used to work for them years ago and before the Internet was crazy over setting sprays. MAC Fix+ never had the wording setting spray on it. And we were also told it's not a fixing or setting spray. Fix meant as to repair, not to fix to the skin. But it's a great spray if you've used a lot of powders and things like that. I used to use it all the time if I used a powder foundation, I would spray it. I would actually drench my face in it and then fan it dry so it made the powder look nicer."

"For setting makeup, the MAC Fix Plus is nice. It doesn't have any scent to it. I'll sometimes dampen a makeup brush with it a little bit, so like if I'm doing my powder eyeliner, I'll dampen my brush and it helps it stay longer."

"Mac Fix Plus is an oldie but a goodie. It's going to add hydration to the skin. It's not a setting spray in that it's going to set your makeup, but it will help to kind of melt things into place. So if you goof and you put a little too much powder, or if you feel like your skin's looking a little dry, your makeup's looking a little dry, you can add some Fix Plus to it and it should help to waken it up. Back in the day I used to also use this right after I would blot down my makeup to kind of give it a really nice fresh look."

"Mac Fix Plus, and what this is going to do, this is not going to set your makeup at all. What this is going to do is it's going to help the makeup melt into your skin so it looks less powdery, it looks more natural. And you can also use this on bare skin like if you want one little hydration pick me up throughout the day."

"I've been using this on and off for several years, it's a staple in my makeup collection. It really does help to keep your makeup in place for the entire day or for the entire night. It's not something that I use every day, but if I am going somewhere special or I need my makeup to stay in place, especially now that we're coming into the summer months and we're going to be experiencing that humidity again, it's nice to use something like this just to keep your makeup in place. This one is alcohol-free, and it's just a staple and it's been around for a really long time. If you're looking for a good makeup setting spray, I would say try this one."

"MAC Fix Plus is something that might not have as much longevity to it but that's going to have a little more of like a glycerin feel to it so it's going to really hydrate your skin and also tone down any powdery finish whatsoever. This to me is a really nice happy medium you get crazy longevity but you also kind of get that little burst of hydration and then it locks in and leaves your skin looking more dewy but not too dewy. This I found works best for my skin type."

Doing My Friend's Makeup and I'm Terrified 😨
"It's time for setting spray, this is where I feel like the powder sandwich really really works out. So I like to take a little bit of Fix Plus. This might feel a little bit drenchy, but bear with me. I let this dry about halfway and then I'll take my sponge, which seems completely against intuition, but I swear this is what really makes the magic happen is pressing the spray into the face."

Makeup YOU Said You'll NEVER Buy Again..
"For setting spray somebody said Mac Fix Plus. It's not an actual setting spray and the mister is more like a shot in the face. It is more like a water-based like melter makeup melter versus like long wear type situation and if you don't spray it far enough I can totally see what you mean like it's pretty intense actually. It just kind of like spits at you."

"I'm going to rehydrate with my MAC Fix Plus Setting Spray, not necessary but I do find myself doing it often. I squeeze it so it's nice and hydrated and then I go in and blend with that. Sometimes I'll spritz this again if I feel like I just want it or need it."

"If my sponge has been sitting for a little while and it needs to be rehydrated, I like to use a little bit of MAC Fix Plus to rehydrate it. You could just get it wet with some water, but I kind of feel like doing this makes my foundation look even better, plus it smells delicious."
