What the gurus are saying

Gurus praise the formula's wearability and natural finish when skin is properly prepped with moisturizer first. The main caveat is that the SPF, while present, is too low in practical application to serve as reliable sun protection on its own; reviewers recommend applying dedicated sunscreen underneath for adequate UV defense.

"I always feel guilty talking about this because I know people feel like they're really getting their sunscreen protection whenever they use like a tinted moisturizer or a foundation that has SPF in it. But the reality is that in order to properly protect your face from sun damage, you need to use about a quarter size amount of sunscreen. Now imagine you using that much tinted moisturizer or foundation on your face. You're going to look caked up. It's not going to look good. Which is why I always recommend going in with a sunscreen before you go in with a tinted moisturizer or foundation with sunscreen formula. It's just not enough protection."

"I've been addicted to the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. As long as your skin's properly moisturized so if you've got that as a base and then I go on with the Tinted Moisturizer."
