What the gurus are saying

The encapsulated bubbles that release hydration as you apply it earn praise for leaving skin plump and hydrated by morning, though gurus split on whether the texture delivers what a sleeping mask should. Some find it pleasantly light with a gel-like feel that works well as a final nighttime step, while others argue it reads more like a daytime moisturizer because it lacks the thickness needed to truly lock in hydration overnight. That means those after a rich, occlusive mask may want to layer it over a heavier cream.

"This is one of my favorite finds, new releases of 2024. Absolutely love this, though it's a little expensive."

Skincare EMPTIES: the oversaturation of peptides (oh no)
"I also finished a mini of the Laneige bouncy and firm. I liked it, but I probably won't repurchase it, it's just so much easier to use these lip balms in a tube."
BEST KOREAN SKINCARE OF 2024 (and of all time)

Worth the Splurge?! Tower 28 gets it, Tatcha wants too much $$, & More!
"Laneige sent me this Bouncy and Firm Sleeping Mask and I absolutely loved it, I still love it, it's such a nice sleeping mask. Peptides actually do have research supporting their use for anti-aging."
New Skincare Releases May 2024: We Are STILL Having Packaging Flaws!!
"They promise overnight results, that you'll get a plumping and firming effect, and I am always a skeptic on overnight firming. But looking at the ingredients, I feel like it looks fine, dare I say good overall, there's pseudo ceramide, hydrolyzed collagen as a humectant, a peptide ingredient, and hyaluronic acid ingredients we've seen before. It's not a bad price either. As a person who is big on textures, I like a nice unique texture, and that's the part of this where it does actually stand out, it has these tiny hydro glow capsules that you can almost feel bursting and providing extra moisture as you massage it into your skin. It really feels nice to apply, it doesn't look like anything special but you feel it. This has a pretty strong floral smell to me, but I am a lot more impressed than I thought I would be, to the extent that if you get a chance to feel this in store I would absolutely encourage you to, it is worth experiencing the feel of this product."

"I love the Laneige sleeping overnight mask, the green one that tones down redness so well, so I was really excited to see this one. This one launched recently. I saw this when I went to the Laneige store in Korea, and [...] I kept thinking about it so I bought it during the sale. [...] The jar is so beautiful. I'm excited to try it."

"Another product that I really don't like is [...] their bouncy and firm sleeping mask, [...] it's just not what you expect, what you want from a sleeping mask, for a sleeping mask I want something thicker that's going to lock in all that hydration overnight. [...] This does feel like a very nice lightweight gel moisturizer, [...] it's going to make a nice daytime moisturizer, but not a sleeping mask."

"I've been using the past month or so and really have been loving the Laneige Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask. Laneige is really the OG, they really brought it and popularized sleeping masks. I have to say of all the ones I've tried this one is by far my favorite for a few reasons. Number one it contains ingredients like peony plant extracts and collagen complex, and it really helps to target dehydrated skin, dry skin, fine lines, and wrinkles. The texture I love even more so than the other ones, it's a little bit more water-based, more creamy and rich and very nourishing. So I really feel this sleeping mask is more ideal for mature skin, dry skin, those that have sensitive skin or are concerned about uneven skin texture and skin tone wanting to refine that with an overnight mask treatment that you can do a few times a week. Overall this sleeping mask is really ideal and suitable, it tends to revitalize and rejuvenate and firm skin so dry skin, mature skin, sensitive skin."

"I love the texture of it, it's super light. It has these little encapsulated bubbles in it that release the hydration onto your skin as you apply it. It feels nice on your skin. I put this on as the last step in my skincare routine at night time and then I wake up with really nice hydrated plump skin. It smells pretty. I think it feels a little bit thicker than the OG sleeping mask because that one's more like a gel and this one is gel-like but it has a slightly thicker texture, just slightly, but it's nice. I recommend it."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
