What the gurus are saying

This serum delivers visible hydration and a radiant glow, but reviewers split sharply on whether the $115-plus price justifies the benefits when cheaper alternatives work just as well. It contains bifida ferment lysate, a prebiotic that may help strengthen your skin barrier, but also includes fragrance and denatured alcohol that can irritate sensitive skin. Think of it as a gentle hydrating step, not a true active like a retinoid.

"The Lancôme Advanced Génifique serum is a genuinely lovely serum. It's lightweight, sinks in beautifully, leaves your skin feeling really hydrated, bouncy, and a little more radiant. That cosmetic elegance is a big part of what you're paying for, and Lancôme does it really well. It's hydrating and supporting your barrier with a ferment, hyaluronic acid, and a vitamin C derivative. It's a really nice, gentle everyday step. Just don't expect any sort of resurfacing or dramatically firm skin the way a true active like a retinoid or exfoliating acid would give you."

"People love the Lancôme Génifique and if it works for you go for it. For me, I just found it kind of drying and irritating. But I guess there's a lot of people that really like it. I mean, it's one of their top sellers, so if it works, go for it."

"A lot of people like this one. For me, I mean it's got a nice texture to it and a lot of people love it, but what I dislike about it is my skin's pretty dry and I don't prefer a ton of denatured alcohol. Even in this I can smell the denatured alcohol. I'll handle it in sunscreens and things like that, but I just prefer not to use it as little as I can. And it also has fragrance in it, citronella and then fragrance lemon things like that. So overall it does have some nice ingredients in there which I like. I think a lot of people really enjoy some of the ferments, the Bifida ferment."

"The Lancôme Génifique contains a fair amount of denatured alcohol, which is the reason I didn't love it. A lot of people love it, nothing wrong with that, but these products that are alternatives to it don't have that in them, so they're a little more skin friendly, especially sensitive skin friendly."

"I really was not a huge fan of this one but a lot of people like it and use it and have no issues. What I don't like is I didn't find it super hydrating for my skin. It has a fair amount of denatured alcohol in it, which some people don't have any issues with. I can use it a little bit, you know, like if sunscreen's got it, typically a few times a week no issues, but if I use it day in and day out my skin will start to get drier."

"Genefique serum from Lancôme which contains vitamin CG. Vitamin CG is ascorbyl glucoside, it is ascorbic acid with a glucoside attached to it, and that is one of the ones where it's attached in a way that it doesn't turn into an antioxidant until it gets into your skin and an enzyme chops it off. So it is not going to work in these tests because apples just do not have the same enzymes as our skin."

"The Lancôme Génifique serum and cream are kind of another option in terms of a bifida product, similar to the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair. However, Lancôme as a brand seems to have added something into their formula that does not get along with my skin, which is why I can never really give you a good review of Lancôme skincare. Their lotions just irritate my skin, and I've had to accept that it must be something in the fragrance blend they use, since I have certain allergies."

"The Génifique products are probably very nice, they too contain bifida ferment lysate, which I love, but I think their fragrance doesn't work out for me, what a shame."

"I'm going to go in with one more hydrating serum, the Lancôme Génifique. This has the same bifida ferment lysate as the industry one, but basically it like, and I want to finish it off because I don't want to waste the product, otherwise I would have used the bifida ferment one, but because I need to finish off this product I'm using this."

Reacting To A YOUTUBE EXECUTIVE’S Skincare Routine.. Then Building Her A New One!
"This is a radiance-boosting serum with bifidus prebiotic. The ingredients in here are not terrible, but in my opinion they're not worth $115. We have a high amount of bifida ferment lysate which is basically a prebiotic that some research has shown helps to strengthen the skin's microbiome and skin barrier. We have some glycerin which is good and hydrating, but it's a basic ingredient, and we have sodium hyaluronate. While I like those ingredients, I don't like them in this $115 fragrance serum, and some derms and doctors will disagree with me on this."

"It is basically like a very hydrating serum. It has the Fida ferment extract and it has yeast extract. These are enriched with humectants, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory compounds so they can help hydrate the skin and have a skin smoothing and skin plumping effect. Objectively speaking, I have tried this out myself and I do note an improvement in skin hydration, luminosity, glow. This product also has adenosine in it which is anti-inflammatory. It does have alcohol in it which again some people find drying but in my experience using this, that was not the case. It does have fragrance which I don't recommend. It's not my preference to have fragrance in skincare. It can be irritating, people can become sensitized to it and allergic. The fragrance in this particular product reminds me of the scents that come in like those moist towelettes for your hands, just a light citrus scent. It doesn't linger, it's not headache inducing for me and I'm bothered by fragrance in skincare typically and this was tolerable for me. Am I recommending it? No. In my opinion, while I saw results with this, I found it very effective at hydrating the skin, honestly, I get similar outcomes with a lot of the Korean hydrating toners that I've used."

"I've been trying to use this Lancôme Génifique, this is a good product actually in my opinion aside from the fragrance, but I find that I get similar if not the same results using less expensive alternatives out there."

"I told him I was going to make my way through this because objectively it's not bad. It does have fragrance which I don't like. I try and avoid fragrance in leave-on products. But having used 95 percent of those, I could say with 100 certainty that there is no reason in my mind to buy this because there's just so many good hydrating Korean toners, Japanese toners that deliver better results than what I am seeing with this. This is hydrating for sure, but once you've dipped your toes in the Korean and Japanese skincare game, this kind of thing is just not as competitive now. Even in the past six years the number of quality hydrating toners on the market has skyrocketed to the point where we don't need to be paying this kind of dollar anymore for a hydrating, antioxidant-rich serum."
*Vlog* REVIEWING SKINCARE PRODUCTS YOU DON'T NEED @DrDrayzday
"It has fragrance in it, and I don't recommend products with fragrance because it's a common irritant and allergen, but I'll say the fragrance here isn't too bad, it's a light citrus scent that fades away and doesn't linger. It has bifida ferment lysate, which is humectant rich and antioxidant rich and may help the skin barrier, so think of it as a hydrating, soothing serum, and truthfully it is pretty hydrating, it gives a nice wrinkle smoothing effect and a healthy radiant glow. But suffice it to say I'm not impressed. If I wanted a super hydrating serum or toner I'd go with the Korean products I've reviewed and raved about on this channel instead, because they're effective. I would never ever be compelled to purchase this, this isn't something I would ever recommend to you guys. It's a hundred and thirty two dollars, and there's nothing about this other than marketing hype that makes it unique compared to others that actually offer more in terms of beneficial ingredients without the fragrance."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
