What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently rank Lamisil (terbinafine) as the best over-the-counter antifungal option for most fungal skin infections and strongly recommend buying the generic store version to save money since the active ingredient is identical. The main caveat is emerging antifungal-resistant fungal strains, particularly from India, which limit effectiveness in some cases and require proper application technique and sustained use. Oral terbinafine for nail fungus offers about a 75 percent mycologic cure rate, though complete cosmetic cure is lower.

"Lamisil, drug name is terbinafine, is the best over-the-counter treatment for athlete's foot. When you use this make sure to put it on all surfaces of the feet including between the toes and around and underneath the toenails. Unfortunately there has been lately the emergence of antifungal resistant ringworm coming from India started, it's now here in the US and it is thought that the antifungal resistance emerged because of inappropriate use of high potency steroid creams."

6 Causes Of Itchy Feet & How To Get Relief
"As far as things that may help get rid of the ringworm, I suggest an over-the-counter called Lamisil, otherwise known as terbinafine cream applied to the feet, between the toes, under the toenails. It can definitely help to clear this up, although it doesn't always work because there are sneakier strains of athlete's foot out there, but it certainly can help a lot of people have found relief."

"Lamisil is just a brand name, the actual drug is terbinafine, so terbinafine is what you want for actual athlete's foot. You can get brand name Lamisil or you can get the Equate version. Look at the price difference there, same drug, different branding."

How To Get Rid Of Jock Itch FAST | Dermatologist Tips
"You want to specifically look for terbinafine, the brand name here in the states of terbinafine cream is Lamisil, but you do not need to buy a brand named Lamisil cream. If the drugstore has their store version, just look for terbinafine 1% cream. In most cases this cream will treat this infection. However, one thing you really have to understand about these fungal skin infections is that sometimes they are resistant to these therapies, it is a growing widespread problem. Fungal skin rashes, the fungus has become resistant to our standard medications. So just be aware that this cream, it may not be enough. But I'm going to give you some pointers on using it and make sure you use it right, that's another reason why it may not work. Some people give up on it too quickly; they don't use it correctly."

"The most commonly used oral antifungal medication is terbinafine, also known as Lamisil. It's also available in topical formulations. This is active against many different types of fungus. It also treats some molds and kills yeast. Terbinafine offers the highest chance of cure, so about 75 percent of people who take this medication for 12 weeks, which is how you take it for your toenails, or six weeks, which is how long you take it for your fingernails, will have what we call a mycologic cure. Mycologic cure, which happens 75 percent of the time with terbinafene, is different than complete cure, and that is where you have a clinically normal appearing nail, and that only happens about 38 percent of the time for the toenails and 59 percent of the time for fingernails."
