What the gurus are saying

Gurus overwhelmingly praise this cleanser, particularly dermatologists who call it a top favorite for oily and combination skin types. The consistent strengths are excellent lathering, gentle cleansing power, long-lasting value, and skin-barrier support from niacinamide and ceramides. Some note it works well as a shaving prep. The one split: those with naturally dry skin find it slightly drying and prefer La Roche-Posay's richer moisturizing cleanser alternative, though even skeptics acknowledge it excels for oilier skin or body use.

"For example, one of my go-tos is the Lar Ro Pose Sea Blast Gel. Not only does it have 20% glycerin, so acting as a hctant and a skin protectant olusive, but this product also contains compounds from Santella, which have been shown to be helpful for healing and recovery and are antioxidants. So, I really enjoy using this product in particular to the eyelid skin."

"I actually have a big bottle of it right now that I'm using as the first step in my nighttime double cleanse. You can actually put it on to a dry face, rub it around almost like a cold cream approach. You just massage it on, it breaks up most of the cosmetic film. It's a little less forgiving with water resistant mascara, but it works well to remove cosmetic residue and debris. If you don't wear a lot of makeup, it is great to use as just a facial cleanser and then rinse it off."

"This is also a foaming cleanser but it's a little less moisturizing than the other one. I would say this one is more for balanced folks, slightly drier skin types. This one's more for oily skin types. And I don't have oily skin. And I do find this the tiniest tiniest bit drying."

"This one is the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser. This is a foaming cleanser but it's a little less moisturizing than the other one. I would say this one is more for balanced folks, slightly drier skin types, this one's more for oily skin types. It says for normal to oily skin. I don't have oily skin and I do find this the tiniest tiniest bit drying. Not really like terribly stripping or anything, just tiniest. Because I already know I love the other one from the brand, I don't usually grab for this one. This one is good for body. It's so good for the body. I actually do use this on my face sometimes in the shower too. But comparison-wise, the other one is my preference. Not my most favorite for my face. I do love this in the shower, though. And I will often use this face and body, especially in warmer weather when I do have some more oil popping in my T-zone."

"For when it comes specifically to either oily skin or normal skin, I would prefer the La Roche-Posay foaming cleanser just overall due to the experience and because the price is only slightly higher, I would still go with that one."

"Because of the surfactant system and the way that it's formulated, I do feel like it leaves you a little bit more hydrated with a little bit of a silkier finish. As far as texture and performance, I personally prefer the La Roche-Posay one."
CeraVe vs La Roche-Posay Cleansers | Doctorly Compares
"The La Roche-Posay one I feel like is a bit silkier. It leaves me a little bit more hydrated and so when comparing those and again this is coming from someone with a perspective of normal to dry skin. If you have oily skin, you may prefer that more oil removing properties that the other one has, but because of the surfactant system and the way that it's formulated, I do feel like it leaves you a little bit more dry where the La Roche-Posay one leaves you a little bit more hydrated with a little bit of a silkier finish. So, as far as texture and performance, I personally prefer the La Roche-Posay one."

"The Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser, this product is the one that comes in a clear blue bottle, it's a large bottle, it's going to last you a long time. I find that it leaves my skin clean without overly drying my skin. This product is a tremendous cleanser from La Roche-Posay that is definitely one of my all-time favorite cleansers."

You're Probably Using Niacinamide Wrong! How to Use, Layer, & Combine Niacinamide for Real Results
"The La Roche-Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser has niacinamide in it. I would not think that your rinse-off niacinamide is complete and would have an effect enough to replace niacinamide in any of your leave-on steps. So if you're doing it in your cleanser, I would still say you might benefit from a leave-on product and again that could be in a toner, essence, serum, lotion, cream, ointment, or sunscreen. One of those derivatives of niacinamide would be sufficient."

"I use it on my face but also because I use it as a body wash. It's gentle, lather is excellent. It's big, like that's the thing with La Roche-Posay with their body care in particular you're going to get a large volume. This face wash, with their washes too, big volume, good amount for your money."

"A little goes a long way. Use warm water in the morning and get it to foam up really nicely, and then you can use it as a shaving prep and you can shave with all that foam on the face, and then it cleanses your face. Use cool water to rinse off, and you can also use it in the afternoon or in the evening as your evening cleanse. This has niacinamide, the thermal spring water, it has ceramide 3 in it, so helps repair the skin barrier. I've been using this for over four years, one of my favorite cleansers of all time."

"La Roche-Posay's foaming cleanser has niacinamide in it, which helps brighten the skin but also helps regulate sebum production. So when I recommend something for my patients with acne, I want niacinamide a lot of times so that doesn't clog up the pores and it keeps the oil down. This is good for combination skin if you have an oily T-Zone like myself, oily here on the forehead, the nose, the chin, drying the cheekbones."

"I like the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser. It's $19.99 for 13.5 ounces, or you can get the refill for a couple bucks less. You can get a smaller container if you just want to try it out for $14.99, but to me, the bigger size makes more sense for more bang for your buck."

"My second cleanser at the moment is the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser. This has no actives in it but it does such a good job at removing all makeup, especially any leftover mascara. It removes all the oil from my T-zone but does not leave me dry. It is ideal for normal to oily skin types, it helps maintain skin barrier, and it removes all the makeup and oil and grease from my skin without stripping any of the natural oils. Some of the key ingredients in it are things like ceramides which will help hydrate, niacinamide to help soothe the skin, glycerin, glycerin is so good at hydrating, it's a natural humectant, it just keeps the moisture in your skin, and of course the La Roche-Posay Prebiotic Thermal Spring Water, this is the soothing water that is sourced from a town called Laroche B in France and it's in all of La Roche-Posay's products. It's rich in minerals, trace elements, and selenium which is a natural antioxidant."

"If you're an oily person and you're looking for a cleanser to help your skin, the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Purifying Foaming Cleanser is a great one to start with if you have a lot of acne. Two to three times a week, use this on your face, let it sit and wash it off. I usually apply it before I go into the shower so it could be in the morning or at night, but it is a great medicated cleanser and it only works if you allow it to sit on your face."

"It has a very refreshing feel. Just from that cleanse, my face is feeling super clean. It feels like I just had some stuff checking out my face. I like it. My face feels so refreshed right now like it's amazing. So far I'm loving it."
