What the gurus are saying

This retinol ranks low on the priority list, mainly because the retinol concentration is hidden and sits far down the ingredient list despite the "intensive" label, leaving people unsure what they're actually paying fifty dollars for. The formula also contains fragrance, which can irritate skin during retinization, the adjustment period when starting retinol. The one bright spot: the tube packaging keeps it fresh and a little goes a long way, but experts suggest exploring other retinols first, particularly from CeraVe or other L'Oreal brands.

"Their Redermic R treatment I found this one to be super irritating. A lot of their products have a lot of fragrance in them and some of them have a good amount of alcohol in them. They do have a lot of winners but not everything is a winner. Even if it's a brand you've grown to trust, check the ingredient list every time because you just don't know until you try it or until you read the ingredient list, or until you do a patch test."

"I got upset at this one because it is fifty dollars for one ounce and nowhere can you find the percentage of retinol in this. When you read the ingredient list, retinol comes all the way on the bottom after sodium hyaluronate, which is not my favorite. I was annoyed at La Roche-Posay for creating something that they call intensive where retinol is listed really low in the ingredient list and yet it is claiming to be intensive and look extremely medical, but there is no information to be found on the concentration of this. This would surprisingly be my last choice. I would not necessarily go for this one. However, I do love the packaging and it comes in a tube, which is nice. It is lightweight, a little bit goes a long way, and I love the packaging. It will stay fresh longer."

"I trust La Roche-Posay and imagine their retinol is quite good, but unfortunately this product has fragrance. Fragrance can be irritating when you're dealing with the retinization process of getting used to a retinol. If you want a retinol, I'd recommend going with another L'Oreal product instead - CeraVe's retinols for example are good. Aside from the fragrance though, this product isn't bad."
