"If you're putting perfume in it, even if it's a non-allergenic perfume, with repeated use over time, especially if you're acne prone, then you can be stimulating that inflammatory cast and you'll get more sensitivity. So I think that's the one negative take on this. For the ingredients, [...] the salicylic acid is quite low down, so I actually don't think it's that effective. I think you can get a nice niacinamide serum from The Ordinary or The Inky List and it'll pretty much do the same thing without irritating the skin. It's quite expensive at about £20, and you're paying £20 just for some niacinamide and some silicone really, with very small amounts of salicylic acid. It's [...] a very small amount, like 40ml as well. I mean, it's a nice idea, but I think [...] you can't say that niacinamide is going to stop you having pigmentation. It's not a true pigmentation product."

"La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo contains 5.5% micronized benzoyl peroxide formulated in a more gentle way along with lipohydroxy acid, which is a more gentle form of salicylic acid that can also help to exfoliate. It's in a light lotion texture that's very easy to apply, absorbs very quickly with minimal residue. I do recommend spot treating one or two pimples if needed, rather than applying benzoyl peroxide all over the face, since the ingredient itself is usually of a very irritating nature and very few people will be able to tolerate that, especially if they're already using a topical retinoid. If you have one or two zits that is just really bothering you or you have important events coming up, spot treating with benzoyl peroxide can more quickly shrink them down."

"This is a solid product, only 30 something bucks you can get at your local store like say at Target or Amazon. It's a really nice product to consider to add to your regimen. The only downside would really be if your acne is out of its league, you've got to go see a dermatologist. It's not a magic bullet. If you have deep cystic bumps, that's something you'd need to see a dermatologist for. This is good for superficial acne, but it's a great product. I can see why it went viral because it's good to have a spot treatment in your back pocket, something that makes you feel mentally better. There's a psychological component of having acne, you want things to be sped along and not feel like there's nothing you can do about it. So if you can psychologically feel better by using this and not trying to go at it with your fingers or tools, we win. We're using these really good ingredients to help break up the dead skin cells, kill the bacteria, and hopefully get clearance."

"This is a hero product from La Roche-Posay that I've been recommending for a while now. It's got 5.5% benzoyl peroxide, which is a wonderful ingredient for acne. It's anti-inflammatory and targets the bacteria that causes acne, so it will help fight off existing breakouts and prevent breakouts in the future. Unfortunately, it's very drying and it does bleach fabrics if it comes in contact with your skin and can bleach your hair if it comes in contact with your hair."
