What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise this product for targeted barrier repair and eye area hydration, with particular enthusiasm for its ability to plump fine lines and protect delicate eyelid skin. The main praise centers on its lightweight feel compared to petroleum jelly, affordability, and suitability for irritated or windburned patches. Some note the tube size relative to cost is a drawback, and one reviewer flagged that it lacks active exfoliants for stubborn dry patches, though overall the consensus is it's effective for spot treatment and nightly eye application.

"La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 is great. It's dimethicone based skin protectant."

Dermatologist Debunks Viral Skincare Trends and Hair Loss Hacks
"The La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 is a skin protectant, so using it all over the face as a moisturizer is an option, but it can be kind of cost prohibitive because it's a pretty small tube for the price. It's a glycerin-based skin protectant, and glycerin is both a humectant, but at higher percentages it's also occlusive, so that's great for barrier recovery and repair. In contrast to petroleum jelly, it doesn't feel greasy on the skin -- it's a lot more lightweight, and it provides immediate and long-lasting hydration. It's deeply hydrating, so that's an advantage of glycerin as a skin protectant. But like any skin protectant layered on over things, it really enhances penetration, so you might develop more irritation doing it that way, and there aren't really any studies looking at the impact of that in large groups of people, so just take that with a grain of salt. Provided you tolerate it, it is an effective way to moisturize the skin. I personally only ever use it around my eyes, because eyelid skin -- stuff will get on there easily, dust, aeroallergens, and get trapped."

"This one is great to use at night time in your nighttime routine. You could use it to the entire face if you wanted to, but honestly, you can just use it to targeted areas where you're having a lot of skin irritation, sensitivity, maybe your cheeks are raw, maybe you have some windburn on your cheeks. This particular product, I think, is excellent for those of you who commute by foot in cold winter conditions and you deal with windburn on your cheeks, your face."
Skin Care During Radiation Therapy | Dermatologist Tips
"La Roche-Posay has a Cicaplast Baume that has actually been investigated for use in patients undergoing radiation therapy and it's been shown to be well tolerated. The reason this is a good option to consider is that first of all it's a skin protectant, it has dimethicone in it so it's nice for limiting water loss and penetration of irritants, but it also has compounds from centella which have been shown actually to be helpful for radiation dermatitis, a type of rash that you can develop as an adverse side effect from radiation therapy."

"The La Roche-Posay Cicaplast was the original one that I discovered for around the eye area. Like a lot of people have under eye thinning of the skin. The skin there is thin to begin with, but they notice they have these prominent sebaceous glands that are a lot more obvious under the skin. They're not milia. They're not little cysts. But if you put this under the eyes, it can really help diminish the appearance of those just by hydrating the skin and by light scattering."
Cherry Angiomas, Sensitive Skin & Shaving Tips | Dermatologist Answers
"Glycerin is a humectant, meaning it helps improve water content in the skin, and it also has an occlusive property to really lock in moisture. This is considered a low-budget way to moisturize and I really think it works pretty well. I tried using this underneath Vaseline and it was a great way to moisturize. The one thing though is I don't think this is as good for me personally for a variety of skin issues like dry patches, because there's no keratolytic here. Whereas other products get in there and they really actively hydrate plus dissolve that dry stuff. But this is a fun option and it's pretty affordable."
How To Heal And Prevent Skin Irritation
"I would suggest to you a product from La Roche-Posay, it's their Cicaplast Balm. This is a great barrier cream for the face. It's really helpful. It's not as heavy as petroleum jelly. It has compounds from centella in it that are anti-inflammatory and can really help smooth and support barrier recovery."

"A glycerin skin protectant has been an absolute game changer not just for keeping eyelid skin hydrated but also helping to diminish the appearance of little fine dehydration lines. "The La Roche-Posay Cicaplast is like a barrier cream in a sense for the face and it works really well and it's kind of a spot focused way for addressing areas where you may be having patchy dryness and sensitivity. It can really help a lot regardless of where you fall on this spectrum."

Skincare Product Reviews Of The Month | February 2024
"I've been using this La Roche-Posay Cicaplast gel around my eyes for a couple of weeks now and I have really seen a visible improvement in just the overall look of fine lines around my eyes as well as I feel like my under eyes are a little bit tighter and brighter and smoother more radiant. It's a glycerin based skin protectant which is really hydrating. What I like about it is it's nice and lightweight but it also creates this lightweight film on the skin surface that really helps protect eyelids from any kind of irritant getting on there and further drying out your eyes. As an eye cream it's amazing. I don't use eye creams, I just use my regular moisturizer around my face, but this as an eye cream I've been impressed. It has made a noticeable difference in the appearance of the skin around my eyes."
*BEST* Barrier Cream: Avene Cicalfate Vs La Roche Posay Cicaplast Balm
"In the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm you've got the zinc, you've got the copper which are good for healing and recovery. The Cicaplast Balm also has panthenol, a B vitamin that's very moisturizing. These barrier balms have ingredients in them that directly are soothing, anti-inflammatory and may help your cause out above and beyond plain petroleum jelly. They're both great products."
The Best Skincare Of 2024
"The gel has 21% glycerin, which is super hydrating and creates this kind of protective film on the skin surface to limit penetration of irritants and to reduce water loss from the skin. It also has compounds from centella which are anti-inflammatory. I'm now on my second tube of it, almost finished, about to buy my third. This gel around the eyes is amazing. Just a tiny little drop under the eyes, upper eyelid, don't get it within a millimeter of your lash line to avoid getting it directly into the eyes, but it really helps plump the skin there and limit penetration of irritant. The eyelid skin is thin so it's a lot more vulnerable to irritation. This has been excellent for not just reducing eyelid dryness but for really plumping and smoothing out lines, and honestly it does lead to a brighter, smoother under eye appearance. I notice a difference when I don't use it. I finished the first two and there was maybe a month or so I wasn't using it and that benefit started to dwindle. My eyelids were a lot more vulnerable to dryness and irritation."
Skincare Dupes At CVS Drugstore
"La Roche-Posay has a Cicaplast gel that's not meant as an eye cream, it's not marketed as an eye cream, but it works really well around the eyes. I've been using it and it totally has brightened up my under eye area, smoothed out fine lines, and it's protecting the delicate eyelid skin from irritants because it is a skin protectant. The balm you can put around your eyes but it is a lot thicker, and I've never experienced the degree of fine line smoothing with the balm as I am with the gel."

"This has really made a difference in just hydrating the skin around my eyes, cutting down on eyelid irritation and plumping and smoothing the appearance of little fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. It's one of my favorite products from La Roche-Posay."
*BEST* Skincare For Scars: Dermatologist's Picks
"La Roche-Posay Cicaplast has glycerin as a skin protectant, and this product also has compounds from centella, which is a botanic ingredient with extracts that can actually be helpful for healing. This product has tranexamic acid in it, which is something that we give by mouth to treat melasma, but applied topically it shows a lot of promise for post-inflammatory erythema. It's also good for the moisture barrier, and ultimately that's going to be beneficial because anything that's good for the moisture barrier ultimately allows for better hydration, better natural exfoliation of the skin, more efficient, and reduced penetration of irritants and microbes into the area that you're trying to baby along. However, this product has a very strong fragrance which can be irritating, so this might not be the best option."
Dermatologist Reviews: La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 Eye Serum
"This is meant for post-procedural care like healing, recovery. It is a glycerin skin protectant, but it works really well to use the tiniest amount around the eyes. It has 20% glycerin in it. For the eye area, I much prefer this. I get amazing results around my eyes with this product. Much less expensive and without the issue of it running into my eyes, causing the stinging sensation or feeling tacky. It's around $22.99 for a decent size tube of it. This product is not really sticky or tacky. It works so well around the eyes in my opinion because the glycerin is super hydrating along with the dimethylone in the product, which helps ultimately to improve water content in the skin, giving you that plumping effect of optimized water content, better epidermal turnover, better barrier integrity, light scattering. You brighten up the under eye area and you also help to reduce irritation around the eyes. It also has madiccastasside, a compound that comes from Santella, which shows promise for having some healing properties and reducing inflammation in the skin. You don't need very much around the eyes. You want to avoid getting it within a millimeter of the lash line to prevent it from getting in your eyes. But it doesn't run into the eyes because it is a thicker consistency."

"I'm a huge fan of La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. Not only is this a great skin protectant but it is also a product that has compounds in it that are anti-inflammatory so that may also help in supporting the milieu that favors skin tag formation. The La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume also contains dimethicone in it."
Viral Skincare Hacks THAT WORK!
"The La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm is one of my favorites. It contains dimethicone, a skin protectant that is attractive for people who have oilier skin because it mixes well with the skin surface lipids so that it doesn't feel greasy or heavy. It's a lot more lightweight in consistency. This particular balm also contains compounds from centella, which are anti-inflammatory and may help facilitate healing as well as barrier recovery. It's a great product. I'm a huge fan."
New Products For Longer Lashes | Skincare Vlog
"I love their Cicaplast Balm. This is a great skin protectant if you've got chapped skin on the cheeks from like windburn or you're developing a lot of irritation. It's a balm, like almost like diaper rash cream, but you can get away with putting it on the face and not feel too like what is this sticky stuff all over the face. It can help also to hydrate up the skin a bit and improve the look of fine lines. I still stand though by the Cicaplast Balm for facial irritation."
How To Heal Dry Cheeks Overnight
"La Roche-Posay also makes another type of skin protectant in the Cicaplast line, a dimethicone-based one, the Cicaplast Balm B5 with panthenol as well as compounds from centella, which are good for soothing the skin. That's another option, it's more a matter of personal preference."

3 Stretch Mark Creams THAT ACTUALLY WORK
"La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 would be a good option. It contains centella, which is a botanic extract and may contain hyaluronic acid naturally, which is why it seems to show promise at least for preventing stretch marks."
Dermatologist-Approved Skincare Gift Guide 2025 🎁
"It has niacinamide. It's very hydrating, soothing. It really helps to heal a damaged barrier. It has dimethicone as a skin protectant and it also has compounds from Centella which help with soothing, with barrier recovery, with healing. It's a great skin protectant. If you end up traveling somewhere and you sustain windburn, plus the airplane is really dry, the room is dry, your cheeks can become very sensitive. This is excellent for healing and soothing those. It's also really good as like a hand cream as well."

"You can use it around the eyes, around the mouth, these very sensitive, delicate areas. You can even layer it with your retinoids -- especially if you're starting off with a retinoid, just use a small amount. There are videos going viral where they show how people even slug with La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5, putting a good amount on their face before going to bed, and they wake up with glowing skin. You're really supporting your skin barrier in a great way. The madecassoside in it is soothing but also has wound healing properties, so it will help soothe and support your skin barrier. If you're in trouble with an inflamed skin barrier, you can definitely start with La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. But always consult with your dermatologist if you're having persistent redness and cracking of the skin, because you might need some topical prescription medications."

“Boring” Skincare That Works Better Than Viral Products (Dermatologist Picks)
"Number one would have to be La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. Love that one. It has shea butter, madecassoside, and panthenol, pro-vitamin B5, so it's very moisturizing and hydrating, and you get the soothing benefits of madecassoside, which is Centella asiatica derived. It's soothing, great for wound healing, great for new scars, old scars, new wounds. Just so versatile. If you have irritated, dry skin on the face, or if you want a nice moisturizer to use with your retinol, you can apply Cicaplast to your face, and people do wake up with a nice glowy finish the next day. If you have a kid with diaper rash or irritation from drooling, you can use it as a barrier to protect the skin around the mouth. I remember those days of having kids with irritant contact dermatitis from saliva collecting around the mouth, and you just get this bright red rash. Cicaplast to the rescue for those situations. Such an essential, versatile skincare product in my household."

The Best Moisturizers for Retinol Users
"One of my favorite moisturizers to help soothe the skin and repair the skin barrier is La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. It's not your traditional moisturizer; it's kind of a jack-of-all-trades rescue moisturizer. You don't want to put too much on because you can clog your pores with a heavy layer. You just need a small amount after your retinoid to seal it in and help nourish the skin. It has panthenol, which is moisturizing and hydrating; madecassoside, which can help soothe and repair the skin barrier and even has wound-healing properties; shea butter; and La Roche-Posay thermal spring water, which is one of my favorite skincare essentials in my household. This isn't glamorous, it's recovery mode. You can also use it in the sandwich method, but again, just a small amount or thin film because you don't want to clog your pores."
Best Skincare Essentials of the Year
"The La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 is the number one skincare product in my household. It's so versatile, such an essential rescue cream. It has madecassoside, shea butter, and panthenol. When you have irritated skin, inflamed skin, you don't know what to put on your skin because everything burns, Cicaplast Baume will come through. Madecassoside has some papers supporting that it works on wound healing, so I like to put that on freshly made wounds, scars, it might help with stretch marks. When my kids have scrapes or post-inflammatory blemishes after the wound has healed, I put it on one to two times a day. If you have chafed skin in the folds, go ahead and use it. Panthenol is a great ingredient that's hydrating and moisturizing to help support the skin barrier, and you're going to have shea butter as well. Great stuff. If you get the European version, the Baume B5+, that works very much on our skin's microbiome. It's really focusing on increasing regulation of good peptides that fight bad bacteria, pathogenic bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus, and upregulate good bacteria in the skin. That's going to really help keep our equilibrium in a happy, harmonious environment."
Stop Overcomplicating Your Routine — Do This for Glowing Skin
"To buffer and repair at bedtime, it's really important to protect and support that skin barrier, and I like the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. I have multiple tubes all over my house. I love that it has madecassoside, which is soothing and will help with wound healing, and it has shea butter and panthenol to help support the skin barrier as well. You can go ahead and apply a thin film over your retinoid to help soothe and buffer the potential irritation you can get from your retinoid."
Best Skin Barrier Repair Products
"La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 is a rescue product. Just use a small amount on the face; if you overdo it, you could clog some pores and cause milia or whiteheads and blackheads. It has madecassoside, which we know has evidence behind it to aid in wound healing and scars, and it has panthenol and shea butter, so it's very hydrating and moisturizing for the skin barrier. It will help plump up your keratinocytes, your skin cells, and also help repair by having madecassic acid in it. I like to put this on scars, but also if you're having just really irritated skin. For me, around the cheekbones when I sleep, sometimes I'll have a little bit of moisture there from tears that might be draining while you sleep, and you can have some irritation there. Go ahead and apply some La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 there. This is nice for rosacea-prone skin. If you're having redness, it can soothe some redness. You can apply it over your retinoid, but just a thin film because you don't want to clog up your pores. It comes out as a thicker balm but it does rub in well. You can use it to help glow up by actually plumping up your skin. It's not full-on slugging, but it's almost like a nice basting of the skin where you're going to help seal in the moisture and glow up that way."
Best Facial Moisturizers of 2025
"The essential that I have all over my house, La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. Just great for diaper rashes, chafed skin, dry, irritated skin of the face. It comes out as a thick balm. Rubs in well if you're applying on your face, but if you have acne-prone skin, do not put too much of this on. Just a thin layer goes a long way to soothe the skin. It's very soothing because not only does it have shea butter and panthenol, it also has madecassoside, which has evidence to help soothe the skin and help with wound healing. For patients with acne that's healing, yes, you can put it on your acne scars, your post-acne blemishes, but don't smother your active acne with this balm. Just a small amount goes a long way. If my skin's irritated from my retinol in the wintertime around my eyes and the cheekbone area or around the mouth, I'm going to go ahead and apply La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. This one has made my list every year for many years."
Five Common Skincare Mistakes You Are Making!
"If you have more dry skin, Cicaplast Balm by La Roche-Posay is a thicker one, but don't use too much because this will clog up your pores. So just a very small amount to seal that all in."
How to Layer Your Skincare Products in an Anti-Aging Skincare Routine
"If you have very dry skin and you're worried about having a contact dermatitis and dryness from your retinoid, you can go as thick as La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. This has shea butter, panthenol, and madecassoside. Don't use too much though, just a pea-sized amount of the Cicaplast Baume because people who have used too much of it have clogged up their pores and caused acne or milia. So just be careful with it. I love that product. Very versatile. Great for chafed skin in the groin, armpit area, dry skin. It's a nice occlusive moisturizer for the face and body. And also if you have a baby with a diaper rash, this helps soothe it as well."
Dermatologist Explains: How to Treat Dry, Cracked Heels and Hands
"I love the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5, which has panthenol and niacinamide but it uses shea butter and it feels like an occlusive ointment like Vaseline but a little thinner, so it's almost a balance between an ointment, a thick Vaseline type of ointment, and a balm. That's just really nice. You can use that for your hands but you can also use that for your feet, and if you cover this up with a sock, you're going to get nice smooth soft heels."
The Top FIVE Must-Have La Roche-Posay Skincare Prdoucts!
"This is just the most versatile skin care product out there. It has a dimethicone base, but there's also shea butter and madecasside, which gives it those Cica Plus benefits. Madecasside is very soothing, anti-inflammatory, really good for irritation on the face. If I'm having dry, irritated skin from traveling, if I am overdoing my retinoids, I just put a small amount on and it's just soothing. I've never had this burn or sting my skin even if it was raw. So even if you have chafed raw skin in the folds, or a baby who has GI issues and is having lots of loose stools and the baby's bottom is getting inflamed, chafed, raw, you could actually use this."
The Top FIVE Must-Have La Roche-Posay Skincare Prdoucts!
"Really good for irritation on the face. If I'm having dry, irritated skin from traveling, if I am overdoing my retinoids, like I've tried tazerotene recently, which is a very strong powerful prescription medication, and it started to irritate my skin on the cheekbones, I just put a small amount on the cheekbones and it's just soothing. I've never had this burn or sting my skin even if it was raw. So even if you have chafed raw skin in the folds, you could actually use this on those areas. This is a great start if it's just getting very irritated and raw from whatever is going on. I travel with this and it works well in my little TSA Ziploc bag. I'll put this in those areas to help hydrate, repair the skin barrier while I sleep in the hotel room, and when I get back, wake up, skin's much better. If you have a scar, this is a nice scar cream. If you have some little wounds or cuts on the back of your hands, your fingers, you can go ahead and apply this to those areas."
The Top Three Skincare Mistakes You Are Making!
"Cicaplast Balm B5 by La Roche-Posay is very nice. Madecassoside helps with healing and soothing, and it has panthenol and shea butter, so it's a very good rescue balm. It's not like a greasy ointment but more of a soothing balm with a creamy texture that's fine for the face. This is very versatile, it's one of the most versatile skincare products out there."

Retinoid Irritation Explained by a Dermatologist | Skin Barrier Adaptation Science
"La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm B5, which is panthenol, pro vitamin B5, is great at having both moisturizing and hydrating properties. But what I love about this is that it has shea butter and madecassoside, which has wound healing properties. So while your skin is pretty much raw and irritated and it's losing water, it's like a wound essentially. What we want to do is support that skin barrier while our body is trying to adjust to retinoids and trying to metabolize them in the skin and try to boost lipid synthesis to help seal off that brick wall that's become dilapidated temporarily."
Dermatologist Explains: Three Skincare Hacks You Need to Do Now!
"The Cicaplast Balm B5 is really interesting because it is a balm that's thick but you could also apply it to your face to help heal acne lesion scarring. It doesn't treat acne but it's good for really irritated skin and it's not comedogenic, so you could apply it to the face. It's just very soothing, has shea butter and madecassoside which is anti-inflammatory and might have some anti-aging properties. It's nice to put over if you have a burn and you want to soothe it, if you have chafing, if you're a runner or cyclist with chafing between folds, or diaper rashes. I give it to families with small children or elderly patients who have sores from pressure ulcers."
Dermatologist Explains: Three Common Skincare Mistakes!
"Winter when you're very dry, especially on your cheekbones, my cheekbones get really dry and irritated, I will use a cream or I'll even use Aquaphor at the cheekbones before going to sleep or Cicaplast Baume B5 by La Roche-Posay."

"This is such a great occlusive healing ointment. Instead of petrolatum, it uses 1% dimethicone, and it also relies on madecassoside to soothe the skin, plus a zinc and magnesium complex that further helps to encourage healing, strengthening, and soothing, all in a slightly more creamy and occlusive ointment-like texture. It brings more moisture into the skin. You can apply it as a spot treatment anywhere that feels like it needs a little extra protection and care, or as a layer on top of your moisturizer. This is the most moisturizing, most protective option for this particular product, and it functions incredibly well as a sleeping mask to fight dehydration, but because of the soothing elements in it, it actually brings a lot of relief to the skin on contact as well. One of my favorite ways to use this is to mix a pea-size amount of Cicaplast Baume B5 into my moisturizer, which makes it more occlusive, more protective, more soothing, and more moisturizing."

5 Star Skincare Empties! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"I've been using this for many many years and I use this really part of the reason I love this so much is I can seem to use this in any type of weather. Whenever my skin needs barrier repair no matter the weather this seems to work for me. This is a skin protectant cream really, you can use it in many different ways. It is meant to soothe irritation, but it also has a good amount of dimethicone which is a great occlusive agent and there's some petrolatum in here that also helps to tuck it in your skincare. When I mix it with another product it takes the medium weight and makes it like a much thicker heftier type of cream, way more occlusive, and so this actually worked for me towards the end of winter when my skin was the driest it was ailing the most."

"I have been mixing in about a pea-sized amount of the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. This stuff is really great because there's some really soothing madecassol in here and that really helps when my skin feels kind of inflamed. The madecassol just felt good on my skin and I think that it really helped. This cream has some ingredients in here that help to promote healing of the skin and because the skin around my nose and my upper lip can get quite irritated from blowing my nose all the time, I think that the soothing qualities and the healing qualities of this cream just help to keep my skin in good shape as it's going through a rougher period and it's a bit more vulnerable. The 1% of dimethicone in this cream kind of amps up or beefs up the moisturizing cream. It makes it a little bit more protective. It does create a slightly more rich, slightly thicker, luxurious cream texture that really just hugs everything in and that little extra protection actually helps keep my skin hydrated and moisturized and helps protect it."
Fall PM Retinal Skincare Routine + Why I Stopped Tretinoin
"The La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm, when you mix it together with another moisturizer, makes it a little bit thicker, more occlusive, and a little bit fluffier and more luxurious too, and it feels amazing. In the Cicaplast we have Madecassol, which is obviously very soothing for inflammation and itchiness and irritated skin, it just seems to work really well for me. But we also have some dimethicone in the Cicaplast, a good amount, and that is a great occlusive ingredient that helps to seal all your skincare in. Mixing it in together creates a little bit of a more breathable layer instead of layering on all that product and then another layer of cream right on top of that."
7 Winter Skincare Essentials | Fight Dryness and Dehydration in the Cold!
"La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm. Obsessed. Use it so many different ways in the winter time. It is such a staple for me. The hero ingredient in here is 1% dimethicone. Dimethicone is an amazing occlusive agent and that is what creates the barrier on our skin. 1% is a good amount. It's still a very elegant amount. It's not going to be suffocating, but it does create a really nice barrier on your skin and that can be helpful in a multitude of ways. This also includes some madecasside. That's the biologically active compound found in the centella plant. Centella is amazing for soothing irritation, itchiness, redness on the skin. It is great for sensitive skin that feels really irritated. It has a healing component to it. The biologically active compound madecasside is a soothing powerhouse, super highly concentrated and is really going to reliably deliver those results to you in your skincare routine."
Tips for Using Tretinoin in Winter | AD ft Dermatica
"A product like La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 has a bit of dimethicone in it which helps to create that protective layer on the skin that holds all that hydration in place, but because there's other skin healing and soothing ingredients in it, if you're suffering from a lot of irritation, this can be a nice product to add into your routine to bring some relief to your skin."
11/10 ⭐ Skincare Empties I Recommend!
"La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm is 11 out of 10. I've been using this for a really long time, especially in winter. I mix a pea-size amount of this Cicaplast into my moisturizing cream and this really makes it more luxurious, thicker, and more protective. It adds a little bit more occlusivity because there's dimethicone in here, a little bit more soothing, and it almost creates your own slugging or like sleeping pack, especially for winter. It can be great for soothing irritation on the skin, thickening up your moisturizer, making it more protective, and fighting against dehydration."
5 Essential Tips for Cold Weather Skincare
"I started mixing in a generous amount of the Cicaplast Balm into my current moisturizer because that moisturizer wasn't quite enough with all of that going on with my skin. What it does is it makes the cream more fluffy, more luxurious, and more moisturizing, and a lot thicker and richer. It creates a moisturizer that is going to give so much more moisture and comfort and soothing to the skin. One of the ingredients in here is Madecassol, that's one of the biologically active compounds of the centella plant, so it actually soothes redness and inflammation and sensitivity. It really calmed my skin down in that sense. But it also features a good amount of dimethicone, and this is an ingredient that brings occlusion. This ingredient creates a temporary seal, if you will, a healing ointment basically on the skin that barrier that helps all of my toner, essence, serum, oil."
4 Steps to Glowing Skin in Winter
"I love this formula because it tackles quite a few of the concerns that cause red skin in the first place. We've got the anti-inflammatory soothing effect with the Madecassol. Madecassol is the active compound found in the centella plant that is really really potent for soothing the skin, for calming down inflammation, for healing the skin. By not just using the plant extract but by isolating that active compound, you get that effect very reliably and very potently in the formula. They're also using one percent of dimethicone which is a skin protectant and an occlusive ingredient. This is really key to think about occlusivity in the winter when you have that dry air inside from the heating."
10 Tips to Fight Dehydration this Winter!
"Something I've also been experimenting with is using the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. It has 1% dimethicone, I know it doesn't sound like a lot, it's plenty, but it does have a little bit more breathability to it. It's not super overwhelming for the skin, so you can apply this in a thin layer on top of your moisturizer, or if you want to mix it into your moisturizer for a slightly lighter feel, not like building up lots and lots of layers on the skin, allowing your skin to breathe. I've actually been doing that a lot during the day and it's been incredibly helpful. If your dehydration has gotten to the point where your skin also feels inflamed and irritated as well, this is a particularly good product to know about because it does have soothing and skin healing ingredients in it. It has madecassoside, which is derived from centella."
My Most Repurchased Skincare | 2024 Edition
"I am prone to eczema, I usually get it around my lip, and when I was getting a bad patch of eczema on my lip I would just put a little dab of this to ease the itching and it worked so good. I have a deep appreciation for products that can ease that itchiness with eczema. La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5, I've been loving this since I think 2020. This is such a multi-purpose cream. I use this in so many different ways, which is why I constantly have it restocked. You can use this for burns, cuts, bug bites. It's an amazing skin protectant to promote healing. It really helps to relieve itchiness and irritation on the skin. I tend to get a really robust immune response when I get bug bites, they swell up, get really red and really itchy, and this just really helps to soothe that and take the edge off. It promotes healing because it has a high amount of dimethicone, which really helps to protect the skin and keeps the skin moist. There are all different kinds of ingredients in here that really do help to promote the skin to mend. It's very occlusive. That dimethicone creates a really nice barrier for the skin to hold in hydration or to hug in all your skincare. It actually performs as a slugging product or sleeping mask very well if you're prone to dehydration."
15 Skincare Tips That Actually Work!
"One of my favorites that I started using last year to help calm down itchiness, irritation, redness and inflammation in my skin while also locking everything in place was the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. I squirt a little bit of that into my moisturizer and then apply that to my face. It not only makes my moisturizer more moisturizing and locks everything in place, but all of those soothing qualities of that healing, anti-irritation ointment actually take down the inflammation, the itchiness, and really help to calm down my skin."
5 HG's for Eczema Flare-Ups! | AD ft Stratia
"This is my go-to when I do have a flare up to resist the itch. This is an intense soothing cream that can really help to relieve that deep down itchy feeling. I use this as a spot treatment in my morning and nighttime routines to cover and help nourish the flare up, but I also carry this with me throughout the day when I do have a flare up and put it on anytime I feel the need to itch, whenever I'm feeling that discomfort. It really does soothe the skin so quickly. The magic here as far as ingredients go is really a three-fold approach to soothing the eczema. The first approach is with an occlusive agent: they're using 1% dimethicone, and what this does is really help to seal and protect the flare up, especially if you do have that really bumpy, oozy eczema. This is really important to keep that area covered with an occlusive agent that really helps to promote the healing process and help keep that area free from any type of bacteria."
If I was repairing my skin barrier today I'd use...
"One of my favorites is the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. This stuff is so great for calming the itchiness and the inflammation it feels so amazing. If you're feeling a lot of itchiness and irritation, there is soothing macide in here, there's some different ingredients in here that really do help to promote healing of the skin and really do help to take down inflammation as well as some dimethicone which also acts as an occlusive temporary barrier to help slow down the loss of hydration in your skin. You can use this for midday application when you just can't take it but you can't wash your face yet. You can also use this on top of your moisturizer like a sleeping mask if the irritation and the redness is just so bad. You can even mix a dab of this into your moisturizer. It not only thickens up your moisturizer so you get more occlusivity with that dimethicone but you get that soothing element with the macide and the healing components to this as well."

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Gel Version Protective B5 Treatment Review & Many Uses
"It does not contain any drying types of alcohol and it's also fragrance free with no noticeable scent, which is really wonderful. It's made in France. It's got a really nice gel texture that I absolutely love. It has a good amount of glycerin, and glycerin usually makes products have a tacky or sticky finish, but I really didn't notice that so much with this. The finish is kind of shiny. You can use this for hydrating purposes with retinoids, or after procedures like lasers or microneedling. It protects and relieves chapped, cracked, and shaved skin, comforts and soothes skin, and helps soothe a disrupted skin barrier. It's sensitive skin friendly, so you can use it if you overdid it on retinoids or exfoliants."
La Roche Posay Cicaplast Gel Version Protective B5 Treatment Review & Many Uses
"It's super hydrating, super calming, and it feels so nice on skin and really not as sticky as you'd think. Simple ingredient list. I like the fact that there's no fragrance, there's no potential irritant in it. I find it works well in chapped areas, dry areas, and irritated skin, especially nice for after laser treatments. Pretty friendly for all skin types including sensitive, dry, oily skin. For acne prone skin there's only panthenol and vitamin E of note, so really nothing too concerning. Very nice simple product, a good soothing, hydrating product that doesn't feel terribly greasy on skin."
La Roche Posay Cicaplast Gel Version Protective B5 Treatment Review & Many Uses
"I really can see so many different uses with this one: calming breakouts, dry chapped winter skin, after skin procedures, hydrating skin, using with retinoids, using it with eczema or itis cases. I love gel products, I have super dry skin and gel texture products are my favorite. I really think this one is worth a try for a lot of you. With a 10 being a perfect score, this one is a 9. If it were cruelty-free it would be better, but as long as these giant brands own all these other brands, I guess this is just where it's at."

The main difference in this one is the zinc because for some people zinc has worked as a very great calming ingredient. Some people find a lot of mineral sunscreens calm their skin, which is probably from maybe some of the zinc in there. It's worth checking out."

It's not really designed as a mask per se, but it's being used by a lot of people like a sleeping mask, and it really does have wonderful properties in terms of hydrating skin and calming it. If you use retinoids, this one's really nice to layer or sandwich them. For the sandwich technique, you apply a moisturizer such as this one, then you apply the retinoid product, and then you apply another product over it to kind of sandwich in between two hydrating layers. So this one's nice for that."

"I love this stuff. It's a rich, creamy balm that calms and hydrates without feeling sticky or greasy. We've used it in my family on shingles, on really irritated skin, scrapes, face, and anywhere on the body. It helps strengthen the moisture barrier and reduces any visible irritation. I like it in the PM. I think it's a little too thick for the morning, but if you do want to use it then, apply a very light moisturizer underneath, then a small layer of La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5, and then your sunscreen. That's going to help repair your skin barrier under your SPF while you're out. It really helps hydrate and soothe the barrier. The key ingredients are panthenol (vitamin B5), madecassoside, shea butter, glycerin, and methylone."

"This one's great morning or evening. It's a super rich, creamy balm. Calms and hydrates without feeling sticky or greasy. I love it on my nonactive nights like no retinol, no exfoliating acid. If I'm just taking a night off and repairing my barrier, I will do a moisturizer and then this on top. It helps strengthen the moisture barrier and reduces any visible irritation. It's for me like I said, final step in the PM routine. But if you're really dry, you can totally use this in the morning under your SPF. If your skin is like red and flaky or stinging, if you find that any moisturizer stings, this one's not going to. The key ingredients here are panthenol or vitamin B5. Also has medicide and shea butter."

It's really safe for any sensitive skin and babies all the way down to 4 months. It's dermatologist and allergy tested, completely fragrance and paraben-free. The key ingredients are panthenol, which is vitamin B5, designed to soothe and moisturize rough and irritated skin. It also contains shea butter and glycerin, which provide rich hydration and help restore the skin's moisture barrier. Other ingredients like medicaside, copper, zinc, and manganese all aid in repairing and reducing irritation. It also has La Roche-Posay thermal spring water. "My favorite by far recommendation in this category that I have used myself many times is the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. This is really fast absorbing, non-greasy balm that reinforces the skin barrier while calming inflammation. It's soothing because of panthenol which supports the skin repair while also has shea butter and glycerin which will provide lightweight hydration without clogging our pores. The addition of copper and zinc in here help prevent bacterial overgrowth which can worsen peroral dermatitis."

"It also helps avoid transepidermal water loss; that's the formula. I have always said this in my consultations: if your skin barrier is damaged, apply a thick layer, wait 10 minutes, once it absorbs massage it in and sleep. By the next day, if your skin is not 50% better, go and see a dermatologist, because this can pretty much repair everything except a broken heart. If it still doesn't help you, that is your sign that you urgently need to see a dermatologist. This is something I highly, highly recommend. The way I like to use it is honestly not as a barrier recovery cream. On nights when I'm not using retinol, and even some nights when I am, I apply a nice thick layer, wait for it to completely absorb into the skin, then I take a tissue, dab it on my skin to remove the excess, massage the rest in, and go to sleep. The next day my skin looks like baby skin. I call it La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 face masking."

"The one product that I've been using over the last two years which I have easily bought over 10 times is this one, the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. They have reformulated the product, a lot of people are complaining this is not as good as the previous one, but honestly I can't really tell the difference and I absolutely love this product. If you have rosacea-prone skin or if your skin is sensitive, this product is going to heal you overnight. When I say overnight, I mean problem 20, 30% overnight, and over the week as you keep using it, your skin will repair, it will heal. If you have sensitive skin and you're starting retinoid or whatever else, this is really, really helpful. Pretty amazing product."

"La Roche-Posay Cicaplast is an all-in-all product that I highly recommend. It's a little expensive, but it's 100% worth it. I have gone through tubes and tubes and tubes of it. When my skin is feeling really not happy, it's feeling dry, it's not feeling bright and fresh, I apply a thick layer like a mask. After 10 to 15 minutes it becomes a little transparent because this has an oil base and it tends to melt, then I wipe it off with a tissue and my skin feels instantly hydrated. This is an amazing skin barrier-building cream, but it's also an amazing face mask, especially if you have dry skin. When you notice your skin barrier is getting compromised, stop everything and start applying this at night. I promise you, you will be good."

This is the new formulation and it contains dimethicone now, which is a silicone, and that is the only difference with the new formulation. I feel like there's been a lot of mixed reviews on this, but I honestly haven't had an issue with it. It's good to have on hand as just in case, but also this is great to use every day twice a day if you really wanted to. You can use this with anything and everything. I will use this on top of tretinoin, retinol, lactic acid. I will use it with serums or just by itself. This is also great in the morning as well, especially if you're using a sunscreen that is really lightweight. This will leave your skin a little shiny, so if you don't like that then just keep this for your nighttime routine. But this really helps to repair the skin barrier and helps to calm any irritation."

It has 5% dimethicone in the formulation, which is silicone and gives you that nice slip to the skin, it's a great conditioning agent. "Roche-Posay decided that they were going to tweak the formulation of their famous Cicaplast Bal, people love love love this moisturizing bal, but it's really not the same today as what it was just 2 years ago. They took out a lot of the hydrating ingredients and replaced them with more matte equivalents. They also kind of cheapened the product by taking out some of the more expensive ingredients and replacing them with cheaper alternatives. That's great for your profit margins but it's really not great for us the consumer. What used to be a beautiful nourishing hydrating barrier supporting serum just doesn't work the same. L'Oreal and Roche-Posay kind of justified this by saying they wanted to make it more accessible to people that have slightly oilier skin that wanted a more matte finish. Well that's great, but why not just create a separate product, have the original, then have a matte version for those of us that have slightly more oily skin. Instead they decided to put out a product reformulated that just didn't offer the same great results as the original."

Even though it is heavy duty, it is not as thick, and so I personally like it in the morning because it layers better under sunscreen. Ingredient-wise, it's got La Roche-Posay thermal spring water, it's got vitamin B5, shea butter, glycerin, derivatives of centella, and other antimicrobial anti-inflammatory ingredients. With its texture, I think for somebody who maybe wants something that's not super heavy or occlusive, or maybe prone to acne, this would be a better option for you."

Viral Skincare that's worth the hype from a dermatologist | Dr. Jenny Liu
"This is one of my favorite products from La Roche-Posay. La Roche-Posay as a brand is one that's near and dear to my heart. I really appreciate and value all the science and research they put into not just their products but skin health and the microbiome in general. I really love their formulas and their mission, not only aiming to help those with eczema and sensitive skin but even patients who are undergoing chemotherapy. As a dermatologist, this is a brand that I recommend on a daily basis to my patients. This product is really nice to see it go viral because you don't think of a balm as something that would be utilized by so many different individuals with different skin types and skin concerns, but the fact that it's gone viral and has been used that way really speaks to the versatility and the ability of this product to multitask, which is why I think it's really worth having this product in your skincare arsenal."

"I brought this one from La Roche-Posay, the Cicaplast Baume B5, it's like a one-stop shop moisturizer, hand cream, even use it on your lips. It's thick but not super heavy, so basically I just seal in all the moisture with this."

"Barrier creams like the Cicaplast from La Roche-Posay are a really great option for post-peel care. A thick moisturizer with really no actives, particularly no actives like additional alpha hydroxy acid, salicylic acid, or retinol, is really what your skin needs."
Korean vs Western Skincare | Dr. Jenny Liu
"This is a multitasking repair cream that you can really use for all sorts of things to spot treat as needed on areas of irritation on your face or body, to reduce chafing. You can also put it all over your face, and I sometimes will do that in the winter time or post procedure, or for people that want to slug but really don't like the greasiness of petrolatum. It contains vitamin B5 panthenol, which is soothing, shea butter, glycerin, La Roche-Posay thermal spring water, along with centella extracts as well as antimicrobial ingredients that reduce inflammation along with other minerals to help soothe and heal your skin barrier. Texture-wise it is more of a dense cream, but I really love the fact that it absorbs really quickly and does not feel like you put too much on your skin afterwards, but still offers your skin barrier support at the same time."
Lightening & Preventing DARK UNDERARMS | Dr. Jenny Liu
"One of my favorites is a good thick moisturizer or one that has active ingredients like Cicaplast Baume B5 from La Roche-Posay that contains B5 vitamin as well as soothe ingredients derivatives from centella that have soothing properties. This is really nice because you can use this after showering, after shaving, but also it's so lightweight and fast absorbing yet it really helps to coat and protect your skin. That is definitely a better alternative if you really don't like that sticky greasy feel."
10 winter skincare hacks from a dermatologist | Dr. Jenny Liu
"La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5 is a rich creamy balm but it actually absorbs super quickly. It's really lightweight and leaves minimal residue or tackiness on the skin, so this is really ideal if you have oily skin and areas that you want to slug over and repair. You can put this all over your face, though it is pretty heavy, but to spot treat areas where you need to can be really helpful. Ironically, people have reported this to be helpful for their acne, and I think in part that's because you are supporting and repairing your skin barrier, and the ingredients in here are anti-inflammatory and soothing and calming. Aside from the vitamin B5 and shea butter and glycerin, it contains centella derivatives along with zinc and copper that we know are anti-inflammatory, soothing, and help with skin barrier repair, along with antimicrobial agents. So all around, I think this is great if you want to do a little bit of slugging to help repair the skin but have oily skin or are prone to acne. This would be a great alternative to petrolatum."

Dermatologist eczema and dry skincare tips for winter | Dr. Jenny Liu
"If a multi-functional product sounds good to you but you really don't enjoy the heaviness and the greasiness of a petrolatum ointment based product then you need to check out one of my all-time favorites which is the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. It's been trending for a long time and for the right reasons. It literally is used from chapped lips to dry skin to chafing, avoiding areas of friction like underarms and back area, to using it to heal diaper rashes. I've also seen people claim that this has helped to repair their perioral dermatitis, cracked fissured hands and corners of the lip. I personally love it for many reasons. Number one, the ingredients are wonderful: La Roche-Posay thermal spring water, dimethicone, shea butter, glycerin, so great, wonderful skin repair ingredients. Also contains anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial ingredients including zinc and copper. Additionally it contains derivatives of centella, which we know are anti-inflammatory and soothing. What makes it really popular and really nice to use is the texture. It is a dense thick balm but once you apply it, it absorbs really quick."

"This is definitely part of the best of list from La Roche-Posay. This product is phenomenal. It also adds that dimethicone into the moisturizer. It's a little bit of a heavier balm, which gives it more healing properties than some of the other products. These are products I generally recommend in the office to people in real life, and this is for the person who's struggling with sensitive irritated skin barrier. They're looking for a recovery balm. This is where that lives."

"It's a great emollient and you've got that nice thermal water to help kind of almost release sensitive skin. It's got some prebiotics in there which is great. I love products with prebiotics, helps with your natural skin to make sure that it works correctly. It says that it's got the seal of approval by allergy specialists and dermatologists. In studies over 4 weeks, most people said there was 55% less dryness, 98% reduction in tightness, 77% reduction in stinging. So if you've got really sensitive compromised skin, this looks like something that will be really good for you."

"La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 is a hydrating moisturizer with zinc in it. If you have discoloration and an inflamed barrier, or you're red and irritated because it's so dry outside, it's a nice option to use because of the zinc to help calm any irritation. It's very thick. I like to use this at night. I wouldn't use the B5 during the day after the active serum because it might be too white or opaque and it might be just too much on your skin."

"La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 has pantenol, shea butter, madecassoside, copper as well as zinc gluconate. Zinc oxide is better when it comes to fully restoring a barrier, but this one is great for hydration and locking it in. It is white. I use this all over my face and the same way that I base my lips. I apply it at night and then I go to sleep. I let it melt into my skin. I probably put it on half an hour to an hour before I go to bed, and then it just melts and does its thing, and the next day my skin is like glowy. It's also a nice one if you are feeling slightly inflamed. I do wish the zinc was slightly different to have more of an anti-inflammatory effect and more a restorative effect, but nonetheless it works pretty damn well and it really is a very nice overnight mask situation."

"I have been using this one by La Roche-Posay, this is the Cicaplast Baume B5, and I would generally put that on right after my dermalect. It's just like the soothing blanket of calm. I'm tempted to do this combo more often because of the way that it makes my skin feel, but I just know my skin doesn't need it, so it's all about making sure my skin is happy and healthy."

"The La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 is something I use for barrier repair if I need something extra. It's like putting a blanket on my face if I've done some medical microneedling within the past few days and I'm having a lot of transepidermal water loss. I find it soothing and it has incredible ingredients for just making the skin feel better. It does contain five percent panthenol which is there to soothe it. It's really good for irritated skin and it's even suitable for babies, so this is good for the whole family. If you're feeling you need something extra and you're a bit parched, this is a fantastic product."

"This is such a soothing nurturing lovely product so when my skin is damaged or it's not happy or it's reactive this is what I go for. It is super thick super rich and it just puts this blanket over your face of goodness. I often use this coming out of microneedling, like maybe two days later once I know all the channels are closed, and it really really helps with that deep nourishment. So when I need something a bit extra this is what I go for. I've gone through so many tubes of this. This is great for all different sorts of things and different body parts if you need a little something on the elbows if they get kind of bumpy or whatever, this is just fantastic. This will always be in my house."

"I apply La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 to the corners of the eyes, the nose, and the mouth, the extra sensitive areas of the face where I definitely don't want any retinoid irritation. It has shea butter in addition to the centella asiatica extract and the panthenol, and it's just a little bit more occlusive. You do not need to use this particular balm; the point is to just add a little extra protection to the areas of the skin that are the thinnest, that are the most prone to irritation. This is where retinol tends to gather at nighttime while we're sleeping, and that's why a lot of people end up stopping their retinoid too early, because they didn't take these extra measures to protect the most sensitive parts of the skin."

"When you accidentally burn yourself, get a cut, scrape, or bruise, you need products that are super effective at soothing the skin, helping to calm and decrease any inflammation, which can lead to subsequent hyperpigmentation. One of my go-to's that I think everyone should have at home is the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. This bad boy is super effective at so many different skin emergencies; it's definitely a good one to just have on hand. It also works as a barrier cream in sensitive areas like the corners of the nose, the eyes, and the mouth, giving you a nice barrier between a very strong active like a retinoid and your sensitive skin."
