What the gurus are saying

This chemical sunscreen dries fast and never feels sticky or greasy, even through humidity and sweat, which is why dermatologists keep recommending it for active days. Broad-spectrum SPF 100 with 80-minute water resistance, it's fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, working well on face and body alike. Some people note a slight sheen, but that's a minor trade-off for a formula this elegant and lightweight.

"I like a sunscreen especially in the humid hot months. It's a chemical sunscreen so there's no white cast with it. I love wearing it both on my face and on my body. I find it's moisturizing while also being non-greasy, fast drying, it doesn't make you look overly shiny. It's water resistant up to 80 minutes so it's excellent for humidity. I keep recommending this over and over again. In my opinion this is one of La Roche-Posay's best sunscreens. It offers really good broadspectrum protection, it's fragrance-free, it feels moisturizing like it doesn't leave the skin feeling dry, so it adds nice lubrication to the skin surface. It's a really good option if you are active outdoors or participate in sport."

"I love the 100, the 60 is also a good choice if that's what's available to you. This is fragrance free. I wear this comfortably on my face. La Roche-Posay has amazing sunscreens in general, they have great sunscreen development formulation. I strongly recommend this."

"Coming in this morning with La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Sunscreen Milk SPF 100 because it's going to be hot, it's going to be humid, it's going to be a blaze. I want water resistant, I want high SPF, I want quick dry, I don't want greasy, so that's why I'm coming in with this fragrance-free."
THE BEST SUNSCREENS OF 2021 @DrDrayzday
"I loved this and wore it throughout the summer. It's a water resistant chemical sunscreen that's really good if you have oily acne-prone skin. It doesn't seep into the eyes, and I can comfortably wear it around my eyelids without it getting in and causing a burny eye sensation, which can be a challenge with American chemical sunscreens. La Roche-Posay is a reputable company with great formulation, and they use a proprietary blend of antioxidants called Cellox Shield that contributes to the stability of the filters for a more reliable formulation overall. It has panthenol, glycerin, and dimethicone so it's actually pretty moisturizing, and it has silica and other ingredients that help reduce oiliness and shine. It can be used on the body and the face, and it does have a bit of shininess to it which some people don't care for. I have a backup in my stash."

"My go-to for the summer for face and body for myself my husband and my daughter is La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk face and body sunscreen broad spectrum SPF 100. I love this one because number one not only are you getting broad spectrum high protection it is also water resistant up to 80 minutes but I love it for the absolute elegance. It is so elegant, fast absorbing. After it's absorbed I don't really feel like I applied it, especially on my body. My body is one that sweats a lot, you're outside it's humid, the last thing I want is my skin to feel sticky, and this sunscreen does not give me that feeling which is why I love this so much. It's also non-comedogenic which is why I also love it for the face and body. For the face in particular, if some people feel sunscreen break them out, I find that this one at least for me has not caused that issue. Ingredient wise it is a chemical filter so what that leaves is no white cast. It also has La Roche-Posay's Cell Ox technology."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
