What the gurus are saying

This tinted sunscreen gets praise for being an accessible first choice, but the titanium dioxide formula has a real limit that matters: it does not block the longer UVA wavelengths (UVA 1 and 2) as well as products with zinc oxide do. That gap matters most if you are concerned about melasma or want the strongest protection against deeper-penetrating rays that can affect collagen. For those with sensitive eyes or anyone wanting a zinc oxide tinted option instead, the coverage here may fall short of what newer alternatives offer.

"I've always talked about the Anthelios Tinted SPF 50 from the beginning of the channel six years ago. My only critique is that it only contains titanium dioxide, which is not great at capturing longer wavelengths of UVA, so I'd say probably go with the other ones that have zinc oxide instead. I really challenge La Roche-Posay to put some zinc oxide into their Anthelios mineral tinted, because we want better longwave coverage, since longer wavelengths of UVA go deeper into the skin and can influence collagen."

Dermatologist Explains: Ten Ways to Manage Melasma!
"La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 Tint has always been a great favorite of mine. It's the first tinted sunscreen I started using in 2020. But now looking at other options out there with zinc oxide, I say that's superior in terms of treatment of melasma because the titanium dioxide in the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Tinted is just not enough UVA 1 and 2 coverage. You want to try to cover the whole spectrum as much as possible: UVA 1, UVA 2, UVB, and also visible light."

"The La Roche-Posay Anelios 50 is tinted but just know that that one only has titanium in it and may not block the UVA UVA 1 and two Spectrum very well so that's my only critique of it now after having so many great tinted sunscreens but I to me it's been my first tinted sunscreen that I fell in love with"

"It is their best mineral sunscreen. Even though it's a mineral sunscreen, it irritated my eyes and they were watery and I was a mess. I could not use it on my face, but I could use it on my body. There are dermatologists, there are people who love it. It is a purchase, but not for me. If you're looking for a mineral sunscreen and if you're willing to take that little bit of risk with your eyes, then this one is for you."
