What the gurus are saying

At $400 an ounce, this serum is basically glycerin, oils, and algae extract (ingredients in affordable moisturizers). It contains eucalyptus oil and fragrance, both skin sensitizers, plus denatured alcohol that experts recommend avoiding. While one reviewer treasures it as a buy-it-for-life product and loves the scent, others emphasize the premium price doesn't justify the basic ingredient list.

"It's kind of newer for me but I just love it and I do think it's going to be my buy it for life product. I normally just get the normal size one, but I got the big one and didn't look at the price tag. It was $1,000, which is a lot, but now I'm just taking really good care of it. My only note is I wish the dispenser thing wouldn't get crusted on the outside. I wipe it down every time because this is my investment and I want the applicator to stay really clean. I'm so obsessed with being very careful with it. But I love her and she smells really good."

"This is basically a moisturizer with essential oils, eucalyptus which is a skin sensitizer, plus fragrance and denatured alcohol, so this is another one to avoid."

"This is called the Concentrate Serum and it's 400 bucks, 400 dollars for one ounce, for 30 milliliters. We have cyclopentasiloxane, algae extract, glycerin, dimethicone, all of the basics that you would find in a good moisturizer, sesame seed oil, sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, all of this is lovely but none of this is worth 400 dollars. La Mer, it is about the marketing, it is about the brand, it is about the prestige because you want to stand there and look like some celebrity and wipe it on your face. Don't think that you need to go into debt or be pressured by some swanky sales marketing person to part with your hard-earned money for something like this. I am not buying it and that is why you will not find it anywhere in my bathroom or skincare routine. Bullshit, I call it as I see it."
