What the gurus are saying

Not greasy despite initial expectations, this balmy-finish tinted product earns strong praise from those with dry and combination skin for its excellent coverage, all-day wear, and versatility as foundation. However, the glowy finish raised concerns about texture visibility in some areas, and the shade range drew criticism for appearing rash-like (reds) and too coppery in cool tones.

"When I first saw this formula I thought it was going to be a horrible greasy mess, but I was pleasantly surprised and it's become one of my favorites. It genuinely just gives a fresh complexion. And of course it is balmy, so you're going to get a little glow, but it's so nice. I love it."

Testing the New L'Oreal Tinted Face Balms.. I'm Shocked
"This is the new L'Oreal tinted balm infused with hyaluronic acid, it comes in 12 shades and is supposed to be 80% skin care, a lightweight tinted balm, around $18. It claims to be never greasy, never cakey, with all day comfort, and it includes a mirror and a cushion applicator. I was thinking it would be a grease ball, but it wasn't. The cushion applicator worked for the cheeks and forehead but I had a harder time blending it in the center of the face, so I went in with a sponge instead, which worked well. The coverage is really nice, it evens out redness, doesn't sit on top of the skin, and has a tacky, true balm like finish. It has a scent, not too intense but it's there. After wearing it for 10 hours it stayed intact, it's quite glowy but I didn't look greasy. The only area that didn't look its best was where I get the most oily, though that could be how I layered products. I feel like if you've got dry or combination skin, or mature skin, you'd really like this, but if you have oily skin it might be a little too dewy for you. I'm actually way more surprised at how much I like this now that I've worn it throughout the night, it smooths over texture, gives great coverage, and felt comfortable all day. I'll definitely be using this again."
Is L’Oréal’s NEW Cushion Foundation Worth It?! 10-Hour Wear Test
"I tried out the L'Oreal True Match Hyaluron Tinted Balm Embellisher, which honestly I'm surprisingly really loving. Like, this has become a go-to product for me, especially for like my busy mom makeup. The balm one is like a good everyday foundation. It's very glowy and dewy."
I LOVE My Current 5-Minute Mommy Makeup!!
"This is the new tinted balm from L'Oreal. The formula has worked really well for me, and I've figured out how to use this in such a quick, effortless, easy way, I actually use this as my foundation and concealer. One thing I've noticed is how good this smells, it's not overly floral, it just smells clean, like you stepped out of the shower. This has become one of my favorite things, I've been using it on a daily basis. I don't know if it's supposed to go under the eyes, but I sure have liked it there too. It doesn't give crazy coverage, you can still kind of see the darker circles under my eyes, but overall it just looks fresh. I personally really, really love it."
I Tried YOUR #1 Makeup Right Now!! 😳
"When I first saw this formula I thought it was going to be a horrible greasy mess, but I was pleasantly surprised and it's become one of my favorites. It genuinely just gives a fresh complexion. And of course it is balmy, so you're going to get a little glow, but it's so nice. I love it."

"Who cares about the skin care ingredients, this is makeup that feels as good as it looks apparently. I like the idea of a balm blush, but the packaging looks like Makeup Revolution, [...] they made it look cheap and nasty. [...] This looks awful on the skin. [...] If you put a balmy shimmer product over texture, the texture looks worse, and the texture is clearer here. That red is awful, it looks like a rash. [...] I don't like the look of them on the skin, I think they look really horrible, and it's not great even on a deeper skin tone. The cool shades are way too coppery and metallicky, almost like copper face paint. I really don't like this balm at all."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
