What the gurus are saying

One expert praises it for holding makeup firmly without stinging eyes and matching pricier setting sprays at a lower cost. However, most who tested it found the same persistent drawback: the spray comes out very wet, leaves a visible shiny or scaly layer on skin, and smells intensely like hairspray rather than a face product. That strong fragrance and the heavy, breathless feel on skin gave several experts pause, though the concern is less about the formula itself and more about whether the finish and sensory experience suit a face product meant to feel invisible.

"The one I recommend for this is the L'Oreal Infallible 3-Second Setting Mist. It really does lock everything in place. It doesn't sting your eyes. I think this performs just as well as Sephora setting sprays at a fraction of the cost."

"I did not enjoy this spray. It felt like hairspray, particularly in my hair. I had to do a lot of brushing out of my hair to get it out of my hair. I'm not sold."

"The spray can is not as controlled as I was expecting it to be. It smells like hairspray. And the can very much looks like hairspray, too. And it's got quite some fragrance to it. Doesn't smell bad, but it's very apparent the fragrance. I definitely say that I get way more control with the spray for the one size. And the L'Oreal setting spray is very wet when it comes out."

"This is the L'Oreal Infallible 3-Second Setting Mist which is supposed to be like super long wear and transfer resistant. It just looks like a hairspray, it kind of reminds me of their version of like a Patrick Star setting spray. It just smells like hairspray, oh my God that was really intense. This is a hairspray for your face."

"This is hairspray in a can, not just the smell and not necessarily even the ingredients, but let me explain myself, right. The smell of this first up is like hairspray. It smells just like Elnett. You know when a really, like, classy person walks past and they just reek of Elnett, you're like, yeah, that's what that smells like. Not only that, it's not the best, really, at holding on your foundation. The way this sits on the skin is exactly how I would imagine a layer of hairspray to sit on the skin. Like, you can't breathe. You can't breathe. Look, first of all, you can see it leaves this shiny, almost like scaly. Like, you can see where it is. And it's still hanging around."
