    What the gurus are saying

This sulfate-free clarifying shampoo earns consistent praise for removing buildup without the harshness of traditional clarifying formulas. The menthol and citric acid work together to refresh the scalp and rebalance pH, while a gentle surfactant cleanses without stripping moisture, making it particularly well-suited for anyone with color-treated or chemically processed hair who needs periodic clarification without drying effects.

"This one is also so good. It's the L'Oreal EverPure Sulfate-Free Clarifying Shampoo. It's a completely sulfate-free formula, so it's great for those for whom that's important. It removes all the buildup while remaining really gentler than some of your traditional clarifying shampoos. It's also suitable for color-treated hair. It removes product buildup and hard water exposure to restore strands. It's formulated with antioxidants, vitamin C, and glycine."

"I find it to be very, very cleansing, not in a drying way, which is fantastic. I don't overdo it. I don't use it every single time I wash my hair, but there are times I use it two washes in a row because I have a lot of product in my hair, and even then I don't find it particularly drying in any way. [...] It does contain salicylic acid, so that's nice. It also has benzoic acid. I really like it. I think it's nice, and I like the scent of it."

"Great. It's safe for color-treated and processed hair, but it also leaves hair feeling refreshed without drying it out. It has menthol and citric acid that help balance the scalp's pH, along with a sulfate-free detergent that cleanses without stripping. So this is a great affordable yet elegant drugstore clarifying shampoo, and I often recommend it on my Instagram and TikTok to my followers."

"Why I like this shampoo, though, is not because it's sulfate-free specifically, but because it gently removes the buildup from hard water, product residue, and excess oils. I've used it and I've loved how it leaves my hair feeling really soft, weightless, and refreshed. It also contains menthol, which is a little different from the other shampoos. It provides an immediate cooling sensation to refresh and soothe the scalp, and my mom also uses this one and loves that cooling sensation."

"I really like these for removing product residue, especially if you use a lot of styling products, which I admittedly don't. But when I was really using these was in my other apartment, where the water was very hard, and I would get this kind of residue on my hair. I found that using a clarifying shampoo once a week would really help control that, and this lasted me a long time. Now that I'm here, the water quality is a bit better and I'm not having that issue."

"At the moment it's my favorite clarifying shampoo, because I used to recommend the Neutrogena Anti-Residue clarifying shampoo, but they discontinued that. This one is really good. It does have salicylic acid, which can help with exfoliating the scalp a bit, and it effectively cuts down on buildup, but it's not overly drying in comparison to many other clarifying shampoos. It's nicely balanced out with moisturizing ingredients."

"I use the L'Oreal EverPure clarifying shampoo and follow with the conditioner. The conditioner with this is just to match the scent profile. There's nothing per se clarifying about the conditioner, but they're both great. I like to use clarifying shampoos because of the hard water. [...] Hard water can definitely take a toll on your hair, your scalp, and your skin barrier, and can be a contributing factor for eczema flares."
