What the gurus are saying

This oil cuts through makeup and sunscreen in about a minute, which gurus kept coming back to as its standout strength, especially compared to slower cleansing oils that feel like they linger and drip. At under ten pounds, it delivers performance that rivals much pricier options, with a watery texture that rinses off without any greasy finish. The one thing to keep in mind: eye makeup may call for a second pass, but the price point and speed make it hard to beat for a daily makeup remover.

"The speedy is my favorite because it's the fragrance free one but it's also super lightweight and like one pump is enough to do your whole face. It lasts a long time. So this one's got mineral oil in it. It's got olive oil. It's got shea butter jojoba seed oil safflower seed oil at 12 bucks and it also has refills as well which makes it really nice. So this stuff is great. If you haven't tried it below or you're on a budget this stuff's great. Love it. Yeah, repurchased it multiple times now."

"It did a pretty good job. My skin feels nice and clean. I have to say I think that one did a pretty darn good job on its own actually. I'm really impressed with it and the fact that it has no scent and it's like super affordable makes it even better."

"This has stayed consistently in my skincare routine. [...] This one has just been my go-to over and over and over. It kind of feels like this isn't viral, and this should be because this feels luxury, but it's very much drugstore price at the same time. This does beat out to me all those viral really popular well-marketed oils which I've tried. [...] The reason I love this one so much is there's three different versions and I love the Speedy version. [...] It's not just oils, the emulsification process, everything is really good, [...] but it's very quick. That's what I used to hate about using oils, it felt like this is going on for so long, the oil's dripping down my face, it's going to my eyes, it's going to my mouth. This one feels like it's literally over in like a minute. This is going to break down sunscreen and makeup super super fast, really fast. I don't think I've used a cleansing oil that breaks down makeup especially super quick. When I've had to put a load of makeup on my face, this is the cleansing oil that I use because it just strips everything off perfectly and super quick without having to spend ages."

"I hate cleansing oils, but the Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil is one of my favorite cleansers of all time. It feels like a slightly thicker water that effortlessly removes sunscreen and makeup with the gentlest massage, then you emulsify with a bit of warm water, rinse away, and it leaves no residue."

"I usually don't like oil cleansers because they feel like an oil and for me it feels like I'm just oiling my face and it feels suffocating. But this one is watery enough to feel light on the skin but it's thick enough for it to not travel down your arms. It has been removing my tinted CC cream and sunscreen effortlessly in this kind of lightweight, thicker than water texture. It doesn't smell like sunflower oil, it doesn't smell like I'm about to cook. It's so lightweight and it honestly reminds you when that balm turns into an oil, this is what you get, a real soft, really nice pleasurable experience that just effortlessly takes away everything, makeup, tinted CC, sunscreen, normal sunscreen, everything. I get all these little oil plugs and black hairs out in 30 seconds of massaging, a really good cleansing experience. I've been using this for a month solid and one pump is enough every time."

"Overall, I really like this cleansing oil. I think it's fantastic. I would gladly repurchase it over and over again. It's relatively affordable. I mean, it's not the least expensive. It's not the most expensive. It's pretty similar performance-wise to the Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil, which I frequently repurchase from Japan."

"This is a cleansing oil, and I love the Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil. You can get it on Amazon, it's very inexpensive, it's effective. I would imagine this Costco version is as well, though I think this one is scented whereas the one that I get on Amazon is not. I love using cleansing oils to break up the film of cosmetic residue and water resistant sunscreen. My favorite is the Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil."

"I finished the Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil. I love it. This is comparable to the Hada Labo cleansing oil I am currently using. It is really affordable, I buy it on Amazon, it is a Japanese brand. I use it first on my face to break up my mascara and my water resistant sunscreen, then I step in the shower and use a gentle cleanser as a second step. If you are in the market for a cleansing oil and do not want to break the bank, the Japanese cleansing oils are top notch."

"I've recently been using the Kosé Softymo speedy oil cleanser, I love this one. I'm almost finished with it so I went ahead and repurchased it. It's effective at removing makeup, just a little bit thicker in consistency than my other oil cleanser, and it emulsifies into a creamy lather too."

"I just started using this cleansing oil about a week or two ago, this is a JBD brand it's under the Cozy line of products and this is something I've been wanting to try actually for a long time. It is a fragrance-free cleansing oil and it has a more medium kind of feel, it's not a super light oil but it's not like really heavy either, definitely somewhere in the middle. And I have to say it has this like cushiony effect, like there's something really cushiony and luxurious about this that I really enjoy. But at the end of the day, it's a cleansing oil, it breaks down makeup really nicely and it's very affordable too."
Yay
"This cleansing oil I really enjoy—it's really good value, it's really effective, and it's also fragrance-free but it smells neutral so it is really suitable for a wide range of people. I found that this removes eyeliner well, I don't get any icing or blurriness, and it has a nice pump which dispenses an amount that you actually want. My personal gripe with cleansing oils is just that getting them from my hand onto my face without anything dripping on the floor is a bit more difficult, and oils require a bit more effort to clean up than water-based products. But there aren't really any other downsides to this, it is just a solid recommendation. I'm going to put this up into Holy Grail."
Yay
"If you're looking for something more budget friendly, then you can't beat the Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil. I mean, I think this is actually less than 10 bucks. A bottle goes a long way. This is one of Japan's top selling cleansing oil and super popular now. [...] This is a lightweight mineral-based oil cleanser that helps to effectively remove everything. [...] The texture is [...] more of a watery oil cleanser, but it still works really well. I do find that for my eye makeup, I do kind of have to go in it with it twice, but still, nevertheless, it's a great one to remove like makeup and sunscreen from your skin and rinses off really nicely without residue. [...] Ingredient wise contains a mineral oil along with other blends like olive, sesame, and jojoba to nourish the skin. So I think just for the price point and also just the efficacy really nothing can beat this."

"It's a lovely wonderful cleansing oil that gets the job done without leaving greasy residue on your skin. It works amazingly well at dissolving most makeup and sunscreen. You can use it alone or as the first step of your double cleansing. Ingredient wise it includes shea butter, olive and jojoba oil as well as sunflower and sesame oil. It's really a must try and must have in your routine, especially if you are into double cleansing."

"I'm going to start off with the Kose Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil and this definitely has been one of my favorite cleansing oils period. I mean it's affordable, a little bit goes a long way and it's just so gentle. I love the light scent, it does a really good job at cleaning the skin. It doesn't strip your skin barrier, it doesn't leave a lot of residue, so certainly you can use this as either double cleansing, the first step of double cleansing, or as your cleanser period. And it's really effective at removing all my waterproof mascara, eyeliner, and even water-resistant sunscreen. Ingredient-wise it is mineral oil based and then contains five different blends of organic oils including olive, jojoba, sesame oil, safflower oil, and shea butter to really nourish the skin at the same time. It's just a lovely cleansing oil and honestly if you haven't tried it, highly recommend."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
