What the gurus are saying

This sunscreen's rich, oily formula creates a luminous glow and delivers long-lasting hydration, though the emollient texture means taking time to let it fully set before swimming or water contact. The coconut-milk scent is a standout, and the nourishing oils (macadamia, coconut, hibiscus, avocado) with vitamin E earn praise for functioning more as indulgent body care than traditional sunscreen.

"This is one of our most purchased and repurchased body sunscreens in this house, it's just such a beautiful product, nice to apply, which is very hard to say about a lot of body sunscreens, but they nailed the scent, they nailed the experience. My one tip is that because it has more of an oily, emollient feel, make sure you really pay attention to applying it and letting it sit on your skin, if you apply it and then immediately jump in the pool I feel like that might not go that well."

"What that means for me is that my moisturization levels are going to last longer so it starts off super hydrated and my skin is super hydrated hours later. The fragrance, you guys, this smells like summer in a bottle. It gives me the same joy that Hawaiian Tropics does and I think they say it's a coconut milk. It doesn't smell exactly the same but it smells like summer and it just is so nice and it makes me happy and joyful. It does have a lot of skin loving ingredients. It has tons of oils, it has Macadamia, it has hibiscus, coconut, avocado oils, so this is really just deeply nourishing and my skin just loves it. It also has vitamin E to soothe and to protect the skin. The glow that it gives is pretty spectacular. It just delivers this beautiful sheen to the skin. It's just gorgeous. The most important thing here is aside from it just feeling so nice and doing great things for my skin, it's actually protecting my skin. For me this is actually more like body care that has the added benefit of SPF as opposed to it being the other way around. This is something that I will use in place of a lot of my body care. When I first get out of the shower I put on a moisturizer straight off the bat but this can take the place of that."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
