What the gurus are saying

The pencil applicator divides reviewers on comfort. One found it tugged at delicate skin and didn't blend smoothly, sitting awkwardly in pores and on the nose. The other praised how it brightens the eye area and delivers that awake look. The texture and application method matter here, those who prefer gentler, creamy concealers may want to try it with a patch test first, while others might find the pencil format convenient for targeted coverage.

"I'm so not used to using like a pencil to put something under my eye. I really prefer things with like a doe foot applicator, just seems more gentle. Like, this just seems to be tugging a little bit at the skin and it's sitting on my skin pretty badly. I can't say I love it. As far as concealer goes, that is not how I really like my concealer looking. That is sitting weirdly on my nose. It's like going into my pores and looking molted. It's definitely not blending well."

"Can you see how that brightens the eye? It just makes me look awake and that's the name of the game. Doesn't really matter how old you are, we could all probably use a little bit of help in that area. So that has just instantly brightens that up. [...] You do not have to be exact with this stuff, it's pretty flexible. I'm just going to tap it in and already I love putting brightness on the corners of my eyes because I do have a lot of shadowing there."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.
