What the gurus are saying

The guru community is overwhelmingly skeptical of JLo Beauty, with most reviewers calling it a failed celebrity cash grab marred by insincerity, outdated packaging, and overpricing relative to formulation quality. The brand's core ingredient, olive oil, is criticized as cheap and common yet positioned as premium. A small minority of dermatologists praised specific products like their mask for spot treatment and melanated skin, but this positive read is drowned out by consensus that the brand lacked genuine celebrity backing and failed to differentiate in a crowded market.

"Nearly every single celebrity Beauty brand that has ever launched post pandemic has been a massive failure, miserable failure, but there are some of those celebrity Beauty brands that have flopped harder than others, and one of those celebrity Beauty brands for me has to be JLo Beauty."

Rhode Skin In Trouble...AGAIN, JLo Beauty PULLED From Sephora & The End Of The Body Shop? Ugly News
"I have not seen a single person talk about JLo Beauty online other than myself. I reviewed one product. Usually when I review a product, it will be in my algorithm. Like, I'll see videos about it nonstop because YouTube shows me other people have talked about this product. That didn't happen with JLo Beauty because no one's talking about it. The search volume for the brand, it's also pretty dire when you compare it to other successful celebrity launches. I feel like this is a true reflection of how these celebrity skincare brands go when you can tell the celebrity behind it really doesn't care about skincare at all. They use this fake olive oil story to market their products. The campaigns, the videos and the pictures that accompany the launch of the brand were so heavily photoshopped, so filtered, nothing about this launch was sincere. The packaging, it's so bad. It looks old, it looks outdated."

They use this fake olive oil story to market their products. The campaigns, the videos and the pictures that accompany the launch of the brand were so heavily photoshopped, so filtered, nothing about this launch was sincere. The brand launched alongside 18 other celebrity skincare brands in 2021 and really just did get lost in the crowd. The packaging, it's so bad. It looks old, it looks outdated. And in an industry where you have to have mass appeal to so many different generations and when you have to compete, sat on a shelf next to the likes of BYOMA, Drunk Elephant, Glow Recipe, CeraVe, you can't look like this, your packaging cannot look like this. I think it was pretty obvious that this brand wasn't going to sell."

"JLo Beauty, the products are really expensive. I don't remember being impressed with the formulations, and the primary ingredient they use is olive oil, which is like a very common and very inexpensive skincare ingredient."

"Jennifer Lopez she's got like 100 different fragrances and now her skincare brand which isn't doing super well and honestly I don't, she's one that I personally think of more as a cash grab than anything. I don't see that she would probably use the stuff she sells that's just my gut instinct on it but I have heard a few good things about it."

"I love to use this as a spot treatment when I have a pimple, especially when you are melanated, because you don't want to have post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation left behind. You can use this as a spot treatment. The beauty of a mask is that it gives you the control of using it. If you have an event or if your skin can tolerate it, you can use it all night on your face. You don't have to wash it off after 10, 15, 20 minutes and the next morning your skin is dewy, soft."

"JLo has her own skincare line called JLo Beauty which is filled with nourishing oils."
