What the gurus are saying

Shade match is the critical factor: when it works, this mineral SPF cream earns praise for hydration and comfort; when it doesn't, reviewers reach for alternatives. The takes split clearly on this practical reality. It's a product where fit determines whether it stays in the rotation.

"This is a lovely balm. It's hydrating, you can sheer it out, it's comfortable to wear on the skin. But I did have some issues with the shade match, which is one reason why I haven't been wearing it as much. The Laura Mercier and the Clinique give me more of a natural look, which is the kind of look that I'm going for. That doesn't make the It Do-It-All Balm bad at all. There's so many of you that love it out there, and it does look beautiful on the skin, especially when you can get the perfect shade match. It gives lovely hydration. But now we have more choices, and for me personally these two balms have moved higher on my list because they give me a little bit more of a natural look."

"The IT Cosmetics CC Cream SPF 50 is one I've been using for a long time, and I always come back to this. It covers, it treats, it protects. It has vitamin E, glycerin, and SPF 50 in one step. For someone who wants meaningful coverage without the feel of a traditional foundation, this consistently delivers."

"Sometimes, if I need a little more coverage, I'll do the IT Cosmetics CC+ cream on top of the SPF."

"The deep shade range is extremely limited and there's no real undertone variation in the darker shade. The formula is thick and sits on top of the skin rather than blending in naturally."

"The IT Cosmetics CC Cream just didn't work for me. It does deliver the full coverage it promises, but the texture felt heavy, almost like a thick moisturizer mixed with concealer, and it has a citrussy scent that reminded her of air fresheners. Within the first two hours it started breaking down around her nose and mouth, and by hour four it looked like she'd been wearing the foundation for three days straight, patchy and crusty. Applying it was tricky: fingers didn't work at all and kept lifting the product off, a sponge was better but still lifted product in previously applied areas, and a dense foundation brush gave the most even coverage. She wears the shade Light, a good match but on the lighter side, out of 30 available shades, though her store only stocked about a third and the rest had to be ordered online, calling it a 47 euro gamble. On the SPF 50+ claim, she said the amount needed to actually reach that protection level, four to five pumps, would be completely unwearable, since she normally uses one to one and a half pumps. The formula's SPF ingredients differ by shade, with lighter shades using Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide and deeper shades using Homosalate, Octisalate and Octocrylene instead, which she thinks could explain why some people love it and others hate it. It also contains Glycerin and Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, snail secretion filtrate, Green Tea Extract, Colloidal Oatmeal, and two peptides from the Matrixyl 3000 complex, plus citrus essential oils that might irritate sensitive skin. The result was the same whether her skin was oilier in summer or drier in winter from her Tretinoin use."

"I purchased the IT Cosmetics CC Cream in the shade Fair, something that had been on my to buy list for years. I'm probably the last person on Earth to try this CC cream, and despite reading a ton of reviews on it, I have to say I really enjoy it. But it is absolutely not what I expected it to be, which is totally a me problem, because it is exactly what every review describes it to be: quite opaque in coverage."

"The Charlotte Tilbury reminds me of the IT Cosmetics CC cream where when you apply it you're like my skin looks flawless, but it's not as heavy and doesn't tend to get as cakey as the IT Cosmetics CC cream, so I feel like Charlotte Tilbury has totally replaced it for me."

"Here's their CC cream. I don't recommend this product because it's got a lot of fragrance and essential oils in it, orange peel oil, bergamot fruit oil, though it does look good on the skin. It's ironic because this line was originally kind of marketed as being for people with rosacea, and those ingredients can be pretty irritating for people with rosacea. I have used this in the past, some of my first videos on this channel are of me using this product. I liked it, I had one tube in my life and I enjoyed it, but I've never repurchased it again."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
