What the gurus are saying

Gurus split sharply on coverage. Some adore the lightweight serum texture and use it daily, praising the extensive shade range and how gently it wears on skin. Others need stronger coverage and found it far too sheer, even for minimal under-eye darkness. The active ingredients, mostly hyaluronic acid and niacinamide, really do work better in a moisturizer.

"One of my all-time faves by IT Cosmetics is their Bye Bye Dark Spots. I just tap this in with my fingers in the under eye area and then over the mobile lid. Cover up those veins a little bit. Cover up that redness. I think this color might be a little bit too light for me. I don't like a really light shade in my under eye area anymore. I know people think that brightening really just brightens up the under eye, but I like it to blend in with my foundation a little bit more than this does. So I will be changing in color on this."

"This is the IT Bye Bye Dark Spots, and I absolutely love it. It just basically erases any imperfections very easily. It's very lightweight, all the redness is diminished, and it's a very good daytime look. It's not heavy. It just gets rid of all the veins on my upper lid, brightens up the lower lid. I can even use it during the day to touch up. It's great for the inner corner brightening that up without looking over cakey. It just becomes one with my skin. I really, really am enjoying this product. It was a real surprise to me."

"The bye bye dark spots concealer, I found this when I was doing I believe either my skin tint review or my tinted moisturizer review, but anyway one of the Associates at Sephora recommended this and I have not put it down. I use it every single day. I love it. It does correcting, it's a serum, it's a concealer all in one. If you're into fast easy makeup, you have to pick this up and try it. And if you hate concealer, if you're like I don't like concealer, it always looks terrible, it accentuates my lines under my eyes, try this and let me know what you think."
The 10 Products I Always Have In My OVER 50 MINIMALIST MAKEUP Routine!
"I always like to have a serum concealer in my kit. I prefer a serum concealer, they're a little bit lighter, they give a more minimalist natural refined look as opposed to using some of the heavier concealers that tend to crease. That way I don't have to bother powdering, they just sit beautifully even in the lines that I have around my eyes. I don't have any problem with the Bye Bye Dark Spots Concealer, and they also make a lot of shades so it's easy to find a close color match. I'm not having to mix a bunch of different colors, so I only have one product that I need to deal with. I just tap it in and warming up a concealer and tapping it in, less seems to be more with concealers."

"I've loved this concealer for a couple years now because I love the serum texture. It's just a nice thin coverage, it does slightly color correct, and they have a ton of colors and it lasts forever."

"The Charlotte Tilbury beautiful skin radiant concealer It Cosmetics byby dark spot concealer and serum say slip radiant all over concealer the L'Oreal Paris true matte eye cream in a concealer are all hybrids but literally only contain hyon acid plus nicomide which really should be in your moisturizer anyway"

"I just use this as an under eye concealer and I gotta say it didn't really cover under my eyes very well. I have very minimal under eye darkness and it didn't even cover my little tiny bit of under eye darkness. It just was kind of a fail for me."

NEW Hot Summer Glow GRWM! NEW Awesome Sunscreen!
"I just assumed since it was It Cosmetics that it would have really really good coverage but be lighter weight than their other concealer because it's bye bye dark spots and I don't even see this covering even my little bit of under eye darkness it's just so sheer. It seems like it's not covering anything. I mean it definitely seems like it's buildable it's giving me better coverage now but it just doesn't sit very well on the skin it's not giving me that smooth seamless look like I get out of my Holy Grail concealer. The concealer looked really clingy and muddled."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
