What the gurus are saying

This purple sunscreen's red onion extract helps even out and blur skin tone discoloration, and the lightweight, moisturizing formula sits nicely on skin without a white cast. However, because it contains titanium dioxide, those with medium to deeper skin tones may want to patch test first, as they might see some white cast.

"I finished the Isntree Purple Protector Sunscreen SPF 40. Isntree has some great sunscreen options, they're a Korean brand, and this one is really interesting. It's got a purplish tint to it which really does a nice job with cosmetic color correction of like dark spots. I have found in using it it's very lightweight, it doesn't leave a white cast, but it does have titanium dioxide in it so if you have a medium to deep skin tone you might get a bit of a white cast with it. It has avobenzone, homosalate, and octocrylene. It also has niacinamide which is going to be good for redness and dark spots, so if you have discoloration that you're looking to protect, improve upon, and camouflage, this would be a great option. I was able to tolerate it comfortably around my eyes. It's not water resistant, so it's a great sort of everyday facial sunscreen for days when you're not outdoors like playing sports or going swimming."

*BEST* Sunscreens For Combination Skin
"This particular sunscreen is their Purple Protector Sunscreen SPF 40. It is a really moisturizing formula with that comes out purple, so it's good for masking that discoloration. It has Ava benzone, homosalate, octinoxate, octocrylene, and titanium dioxide, so it's technically a hybrid sunscreen, but I don't get any white cast with this. I do think if you have a really deep skin tone you might see a white cast with this because of the titanium dioxide. Now it gets its name from the onion bulb extract that does have anti-inflammatory compounds and there is some interest with onion bulb extract for healing properties and for potentially being beneficial for healing of scars. It definitely is packed with anti-inflammatory compounds. This one also has niacinamide which is good for redness, dark spots, moisture barrier, acne prone skin. It's good for rosacea because of its anti-redness properties and it's good for hyperpigmentation."

"This one is SPF 40, it is a chemical sunscreen, it is purple in appearance, and it has lanto and red onion extract to help even out skin tone. It all works together to even out your skin tone, it helps blur the discoloration and evens out your skin tone."

"I ended up reaching out and we ended up working together to formulate this and it is the Purple Protector Sunscreen, which yes has red onion extract. When this finally came out there were a lot of questions about it because it is a very weird, strange product. It is a purple onion sunscreen and it did sell out multiple times. One of the main questions is why onions and does it smell like onions. I'm so happy that this is fragrance-free. I wanted it to be good for more sensitive skin types, especially since organic or chemical sunscreens can sometimes be really irritating to both skin and eyes. This was tested for literal years and I rubbed this into my eyes as well as other people's eyes. It's not 100% sting-free for everyone, again everybody's eyes are different, and it's never a good idea to rub sunscreen directly into your eyes, but I did."
