    What the gurus are saying

The serum's straightforward formula with a high concentration of green tea earns praise for working as a gentle buffer that hydrates without overwhelming the skin. Gurus note the texture is pleasing and the ingredient list refreshingly short, making it suitable for any skin type, though it was formulated with oily and acne-prone skin in mind. At 80 milliliters for thirty dollars, the value far outpaces most serums on the market.

"While it still hydrates, the formula has kind of evolved but all they've really done is highlighted the hyaluronic acid because that is now a popular buzzword. Whilst I feel like green tea used to be very popular and hyaluronic acid used to be very popular too, people are all about other things now when it comes to hydration. I think even in Korea the brand isn't as popular as it used to be, and that's the thing is I feel like whilst the industry had all their kind of core collections they didn't evolve much and it all became very outdated and kind of old. I think in today's world for a brand to survive there has to be that kind of well what do you do, like what else do you do, what's the gimmick, what's the catchy thing. Isntree is lacking in that regard. I don't think every brand should have to have this, Isntree should be able to stand alone great on its ingredients and what their products do, but I feel like it's just not kept up with the times, which is sad."

"Green tea is rich in catechins and EGCG which is a very strong anti-aging ingredient or anti-glycation end product and it's been shown to inhibit the formation of advanced glycation end products. This one's really nice for that, it's got some other good antioxidants in it. In my opinion this one's really good for oilier skin or for drier skin like in the summer or for a daytime serum or for layering with other products. It's really quite wonderful, not too expensive, and it really does the trick. Their toner version of it's great as well."

"The Green Tea Fresh Serum from Isntree is a great [...] neutral serum, something without a ton of ingredients, something that's hydrating and something that acts as a buffer."

"Isntree has a really wonderful green tea line. This is their green tea serum which is wonderful, their emulsion's great, their lotion's great, and their cleanser I found to be a little bit drying but overall this stuff is really wonderful. I've repurchased it as well so definitely worth checking out."

"I find the price of this incredibly fair, thirty dollars for 80 milliliters of product. Most serums are 30 ml or 50 ml, so I think that this is priced exactly right. This entire line has really been formulated to bring a high concentration of quality green tea into your skin, and it's been formulated with oily folks in mind because they have formulated the products within this line to help control sebum on the skin. Green tea also has all those great anti-aging benefits too, so it's also a great line even if you're not oily or have acne-prone skin. This is one of the products in the line that I do think could work for any skin type. It's got such a pleasing texture to it."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
