What the gurus are saying

This cleanser delivers the dense foam of traditional Korean cleansers without the irritation, thanks to a balanced pH of 5.5 instead of the typical 9, which some gurus praise for protecting sensitive barriers. However, the formula's strong essential oil blend leaves skin feeling tight and stripped after rinsing for others, so those with sensitive or easily irritated skin may want to patch test first or consider alternating with a more hydrating cleanser.

"I've been really impressed by this because a lot of Korean cleansers have a really dense foam and a high pH around 9 because that dense foam is created using traditional soap surfactants which are fatty acid salts, so in those cleansers you'll generally see these sorts of fatty acids and potassium hydroxide high in the ingredients list. But unfortunately that high pH can disturb some people's barriers like mine and it leads to irritation and dryness after a while."

"The first one is the Innisfree Blueberry Rebalancing Cleanser. This one is super strong scented from lavender oil, orange peel oil, and lolu. And I will say once I rinse this off my skin feels screaming like stripped dry. So I don't recommend that."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
