What the gurus are saying

Gurus agree hyaluronic acid effectively boosts skin hydration and can support moisture retention when layered with an occlusive moisturizer applied while skin is still damp. Benefits include improved firmness and potential help with stretch marks. The main caveat is application timing: applying moisturizer immediately after hyaluronic acid maximizes hydration, whereas waiting allows water to evaporate. Overall reception is positive, though some view it as optional rather than essential depending on personal preference for extra moisture.

"We have hyaluronic acid, retinols, peptides, everything. Hyaluronic acid allows for retention of the moisture and firming of the skin."

"If you put on moisturizer immediately, that can make a difference compared to putting on moisturizer 15 minutes afterwards, and that's because water does actually make skin more permeable. You're adding more water and that water makes your skin lose water more easily, so if you quickly slap on an occlusive when your skin is still wet, then that just sort of slows down that evaporation. If you like having extra water, then use it. If you don't like using extra water, don't feel like you have to, because I don't know if your moisturizers are stealing your water. It's entirely a preference thing."
