What they liked

  • Hydrating and creamy texture
  • Luminous finish without looking sparkly
  • Blends seamlessly over other products

What they flagged

  • Settles in fine lines and creases

What the gurus are saying

The creamy texture delivers impressive hydration and wears beautifully, with a glow that reads healthy rather than heavy or sparkly. The brush applicator is soft and reaches tricky spots well. One concern: the thicker formula can settle slightly in fine lines like the nasolabial folds, though the settling is subtle enough that most people won't notice it. Those with deeper lines may want to use a lighter hand in those areas or set with powder to keep it smooth.

"At the end of the day, I did have minimal creasing around the nasial labial folds. And overall, the wear throughout the day stayed very elegant, natural looking. It held on to that soft glow finish without becoming overly greasy or overly drying out."

Hourglass Illuminous Glow vs. Veil Skin Tint: Which is Best for Mature Skin? (50+)
"For a foundation, really impressive. It's hydrating. It looks pretty. It wears well. I was very impressed. The only thing is there's a slight amount of settling in my nasolabial fold area. The Illusion Luminous Glow is really creamy and a little bit thicker, gives more coverage, and obviously has more pigment so it's going to settle [...] in those areas. But all in all, I honestly don't think anybody could tell that I have two different complexion products on."

"I'm wearing this foundation today and I think it just looks so nice. It's really glowy for sure, but it wears really well and it doesn't look greasy on the skin. It's a really nice tinted sunscreen that has glow without it looking or feeling greasy, which I feel like has been great for these really hot days in August. And I honestly feel like it's a great thing to move into the cooler months as well, just to add some of that glow and health back into the skin, as things cool off and as your skin gets a little more dry. I feel like I'm going to still use this in September and October as well. But I really, really love it."

NEW MAKEUP No One’s Talking About 🤯
"I just put a little bit on the back of my hand and it looks like that shade should work for me. Let's go ahead and apply this all over the skin, going in a light layer. [...] I don't want to overdo it since I've already got two other new complexion products on today. [...] It's actually a great match. And this brush, my goodness, so soft and the perfect size to get into the hard to reach areas on the face. I'm going to bring that down the neck a little bit, then take what's left on the back of my hand with a sponge and press this into the skin. You can definitely tell it has quite a bit of glow to it, but honestly it looks really healthy on the skin, it doesn't look heavy, and it also doesn't look sparkly, which is a good thing."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.
