What the gurus are saying

Under UV camera testing, this serum sunscreen outperformed all others tested. Its lightweight, non-greasy texture and hydrating, dewy finish earn consistent praise for easy midday reapplication. The dropper packaging has detractors, but the formula's performance and price have won strong enthusiasm overall.

"I like this one, it's kind of a serumy texture to it. I did a full review of it probably when it first came out and I was all over this brand instantly. I really like this one, they've got a lot of different options and I've had good luck with all of them. The ones I've tried are fragrance free."

"This one's got seven chemical filters and it is amazing. When I reviewed it under the UV camera, this stuff gave what looks under the UV camera at the best protection of anything I tested. It was amazing. We've also got a sodium esaral phosphate which is a vitamin C derivative, panthenol and aloe. It's lovely. I really like their line."

"This is by Hello Sunday, it's called the One That's a Serum SPF 50. I just picked this up randomly when I was in the pharmacy last summer and I picked this up for my sunscreen video. I cannot tell you how much I love this product. It is so dewy, it is so glowy, it is hydrating. It sinks into the skin, makeup sits beautifully underneath it. I haven't repurchased it, the only reason I haven't repurchased it is I have so many sunscreens from that last year's video that I'm still making my way through. I am definitely going to repurchase this 100%. It looked so good during the winter because I didn't start using it until the winter. I was amazed at how wonderful it was on my dry, dehydrated skin in the winter months. I put it on and I was like, I don't even need to wear makeup today, it's that good."

"I'm using this to reapply during the day, just put it right over whatever I got going on and it's just so lovely. I'm not a fan of the dropper, I don't like droppers and I hope that they reformulate that, I prefer a pump, but I don't care and I think the price is amazing. [...] For me this is a five out of five and I will be so enjoying using this up and repurchasing it again."

❤️ Things I'm loving | Beauty Favorites
"This is called the one that's a serum by Hello Sunday. I picked this up as part of my sunscreen challenge last year and was shocked at how hydrating this was for the skin and it was just beautiful. It's really only this winter that I've started to use it and it turns out it's exactly what my parched skin needs and it just has this glow. One of the things that I like the most about it is that it layers so well and I can put on two, three layers of this and my skin just looks beautiful. It fits so well under makeup and sometimes I don't even need it because my skin just looks so nice and healthy. I just finished this up a few days ago and will definitely be repurchasing, and I also got to pick this up at my local pharmacy so it's super easy and it only cost about 20 bucks."

"It's new and improved and they've even updated the formula and I find it super easy to get a really good amount of sunscreen with one squeeze. What I initially loved about this product is it's super lightweight and non-greasy. The new and improved one feels even lighter. I can use a really lightweight moisturizer if I want to with it and still layer it up without feeling bogged down, oily and greasy. It kind of feels more like a moisturizer than it does a sunscreen, like a super lightweight gel type moisturizer. We have a vitamin C in here, a great antioxidant to help fight free radical damage alongside your sunscreen protection, hyaluronic acid for hydration as well as improving barrier function, glycerin for hydration, panthenol and allantoin for that soothing factor which I love in my sunscreen, especially as someone with rosacea. I need that kind of cool down and calm my skin. Aloe leaf juice powder, which is a new one for me, but that basically just keeps all the good benefits of the aloe without the water content so it's soothing and moisturizing. For me I know I can count on this one no matter what kind of state my skin is in and great for all skin tones and colors. This is one of my go-to holy grail sunscreens."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
