What the gurus are saying

Under UV camera, this sunscreen impressed reviewers with its exceptional coverage, delivering protection in a lightweight, no-cast formula. It also contains helpful actives like vitamin C, which may help those with acne-prone skin, and a gentle exfoliating acid for texture. However, reviewers cautioned that the formula can drift into eyes during the day, causing irritation, and warned against the brand's suggestion to dilute it into moisturizer, which compromises protection.

"This is the one that's a serum SPF 45 and it's really amazing. This stuff under the sunscreen camera, I mean it was amazing. This provided the most coverage out of any sunscreen I saw under that camera, so this stuff was impressive. It's got a super light texture."

The Best Sunscreen Products for Each Skin Type 🌞 Hardest Working SPF's For Everyone
"It's fragrance free, it's alcohol free. It's got UVA plus, octinoxate, tinosorb, avobenzone, usorb HBO T1500, and tinosorb M. So that's got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven filters. This one's great and it's just super lightweight. It's got panthenol and aloe as well as a carnosine peptide in there. I'm kind of bummed that they came out with the US line because it just doesn't compare to their UK line. I tried one of their American filter ones and it just didn't compare in terms of texture, feel, smell, any of it. It was a bummer."

The Best Sunscreens for Summer 2023 - High UVA Protection - Sweat Resistant - Hardest Working SPF's
"Hello Sunday, they have several different ones. The one that says Serum is my favorite, SPF 45. I use this under the UV camera and this stuff was so impressive under the UV camera, it was almost more impressive than any other sunscreen. A lot of them end up looking grayish when I applied this under the UV camera, it was black, which indicates great protection. Fragrance free, it's a chemical sunscreen with five different filters. This brand is really lovely. It feels really light and lovely."

"This is a chemical sunscreen, there's no cast. It has sodium ascorbyl phosphate, that form of vitamin C that may be helpful for people with acne prone skin, it also has gluconolactone, a polyhydroxy acid that's moisturizing and really helpful for skin texture, very mildly exfoliating but not irritating, and it's got hyaluronic acid which can help with hydration. I would think of this product as like a daily moisturizer with sunscreen, it's pretty moisturizing. It is not water resistant so it's not a product I'd use for sport. It's a fluid formula, very moisturizing, I'm able to tolerate it without any burning or stinging, but it did run into my eyes a little bit as the day went on and I got a subtle kind of burny, blurry eye effect. This is pretty good though, if you are looking for a nice daily moisturizer that has sunscreen, I would suggest this, it's great, it doesn't peel and I think cosmetics will go on over it just fine. The one thing I will point out is the product suggests adding drops of it to your moisturizer for added SPF, that is misleading, I would not dilute out your sunscreen into your moisturizer, it will impact how the product protects you, so I would not suggest doing that."

"The One Serum comes as a mini, so having this little mini to actually just pop in your bag or even pop it in your pocket, so tiny, and be able to reapply throughout the day makes this like a super handy little thing to have. It's super easy to reapply without having to check in the mirror if it's like left on your skin or anything. It just sinks perfectly into the skin and you get a nice even spread using the correct amount of sunscreen to cover all areas."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
