What they liked

  • Lightweight hydrating gel texture
  • Absorbs without stickiness
  • Rice extract, aloe, and ginseng blend

What they flagged

  • Denatured alcohol and fragrance

What the gurus are saying

One expert praised the lightweight, hydrating gel texture and pleasant woodsy scent, noting it spreads smoothly and feels refreshing on skin. However, another dermatologist flagged the denatured alcohol and fragrance as concerns, especially for sensitive skin or children, and felt the formula undermined what could have been an otherwise strong blend of rice, aloe, ginseng, and ferments. That means those with reactive or easily irritated skin may want to patch-test first, or skip it if alcohol is a known trigger.

"It's got rice extract, which I love as a conditioner. They've got aloe, which is anti-inflammatory. They've got ginseng, which is anti-inflammatory, good for anti-aging. They have some ferment, which is also good. But they've gone in with denatured alcohol and [...] fragrance. So this is not a naive safe product and it's not one I'd recommend for you or your children. What a shame because it could have been so good."

"This is primarily a hydrating product with a bit of essential oils, and it's just not a perfect combination for me. I have dry, acne prone, sensitive skin, and I need more in my products than just hydration. It's not that there's anything wrong with it, and I can see someone really enjoying this as a hydrating product that isn't too sticky or heavy, but it's just not a product I would purchase myself."

"I'm feeling a really pleasant hydrating gel texture, it's spreading really nicely. The smell [...] is very strong with some essential oils and fragrant compounds. It has a very woodsy scent, clean woodsy rather than smoky. It's got a pleasant lightweight feeling with a hydrating gel essence."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
