What they liked

  • Rich, silky texture with a subtle glow
  • Five types of ceramides for barrier support
  • Addresses breakouts despite heavy moisture

What they flagged

Nothing. None of the experts who reviewed it raised a problem.

    What the gurus are saying

The ceramides here are encapsulated in visible white flakes, which keeps them fresh and more potent on the skin, and the formula pairs that deep moisturizing power with phytoinosine to help prevent breakouts even under a rich cream. Those with drier skin will find it delivers a silky, luxurious texture with a subtle glow and real softening, though the richness means it works best as an overnight treatment rather than a daytime layer.

"I saw someone rank their Korean skincare with another brand at number one and Haruharu Wonder at number two, and ever since reading that I've been thinking Haruharu Wonder might be my second favorite brand. This moisturizer feels like they're coming for Illiyoon or Aestura, it's got those melting beads in it but it's so well done, just an absolute delight to apply and feels super nourishing too. It doesn't feel super heavy while you're applying it, but it feels more heavy after you apply it because of those beads. I converted the ceramide content and it was ten thousand parts per million, which is one percent, the highest ceramide content you typically see in skincare."

"If you need some barrier strengthening, this is the Haruharu Wonder Black Rice 5 Ceramide Barrier Moisturizing Cream. This is the moisturizer in the same line as the essence that we just used, and the point of view here is very similar. They are using the ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids for barrier repair. And this line in particular, I really do respect it for its abilities to really strengthen up and repair the skin barrier. They have a very traditional thick kind of a cream texture here, and there are some capsules in this cream that do contain the ceramides. And so this is a way to deliver the ceramides a little bit more efficiently into your skin, keeping the ceramides very efficacious and potent for your skin for skin barrier repair. This is a medium to thicker cream texture. It's incredibly emollient. There is a richness factor to this. It definitely is incredibly moisturizing, skin softening, and there is a good amount of occlusion in here. Occlusion is that quality that really helps to hold all your skin care in place, hold all the hydration into your skin, and help to protect your skin from the outside environment, dry air, wind, harsh temperatures, all of that stuff. And that can be incredibly helpful if you are going through some barrier issues."

"It's not as heavy as say the Haruharu Wonder Black Rice 5 Ceramide Barrier Moisturizing Cream that I really like. It's not quite as rich. It doesn't have like that as much of that rich oil content and emollency to it."
My 2025 Winter Approved Moisturizers Picks!
"I would really recommend this for folks who are struggling with more dryness on their skin in this season. My combo skin leans more dry and that's really where my skin sits in the winter and I love this for cold weather. I started using this in the spring when it was still a little bit chilly and my skin was loving it then. I pulled this out for those chilly fall nights, loved it then. And now that it's quite windy and icy, my skin is really appreciating it because it's not just protective against the dehydration, the wind and the environment, but the amount of moisture that this provides from those five different ceramides, those are lipids, those are emollients, they are incredibly moisturizing for skin that is soothing the dry areas. My skin when it gets dry also goes really red like around my nose and that also makes my complexion look very uneven as well. And so I love all the moisture that this provides. It calms down that redness. It soothes the dryness. But then the rice extract, over a long period of time starts to tease out that healthy glow within the skin, too. I love that this moisturizer pulls in all those different elements: a healthy barrier, lots of moisture, a little bit of dewiness, some of that brightness from the rice, packages it all into this medium, very rich and moisturizing cream."
THIS Skincare Made My Year! | Best of 2025 🎉
"The Haruharu Wonder Black Rice 5 Ceramide Barrier Moisturizing Cream really made a big impression on me this year. This is another one that I feel like lives up to the claims of a barrier moisturizer. We have five different types of ceramides in here. We've got other lipid content that is really helping to support the skin. We have the black rice content, antioxidants. It also helps with the complexion, kind of brightens up the skin a little bit. This is a much richer cream than the Kaser X, which I describe more medium weight. This is a little bit thicker, a little bit richer. We've got a bit more of that silky slip to it, a little bit more oil content to this one, much more moisturizing. But it has really good absorbency. There are ceramide capsules or flakes. You'll see that in the texture. It helps the ceramide and lipid content to stay really fresh in the jar, but also to deliver into the skin a little bit more effectively. You don't feel them dragging across your skin though. You don't really feel it at all. They're very melty, and that's really how I describe this texture. It's very buttery, very silky, moisturizing, good absorbency, a good amount of comforting, nourishing moisture to this. Very smoothing."
A Full Day of Skincare! AM to PM Routine ☀️🌙
"This is heavier and more occlusive than the moisturizer I used in the morning. I've really been into this moisturizer. I started testing it a while ago and it was my favorite one from that batch of reviews, and I've just really been gravitating towards it a lot for summer nights. It is quite nourishing, a little too heavy I think for the morning time. This also has ceramide capsules in it, which some of my favorite moisturizers have. I'm never sure if it's like a gimmick or if it actually does help the ceramides stay more fresh and deliver into your skin more effectively. But I will say I do feel like this is a great barrier moisturizer. Medium weight, very occlusive, fights dehydration, great for skin that leans a little bit more dry. You don't have to have dry skin. You could be like me, combo dry, or fighting off that air conditioning dehydration that you get in the summertime. This really helps to protect the skin, keep the skin barrier strong. Ceramides, cholesterol, fatty acids, like it leaves your skin so silky and soft. It feels amazing."
June Faves | Haruharu, Krave, Kerastase, You're Not Here to Be Perfect
"I love this. If you caught my recent Haruharu moisturizer review video, you know that I have been testing out three moisturizers from Haruharu and this one was my favorite from those three moisturizers. This is also part of the probiotics line that I really like from Haruharu, you know the essence that I've been using for like seven or eight months straight, right? That one, this is the moisturizer that matches that line so you know it was probably destined to be one of my favorite moisturizers for sure. This is everything I love in a moisturizer. It's ceramides, it's cholesterol, it's fatty acids, it's all about supporting that moisture barrier. And it has this really beautiful nourishing creamy texture but it does all that moisturization inside of the skin, right? Not as a greasy super rich kind of oily layer sitting on top of your skin. This actually has really good absorbency into the skin and it makes it super super soft. A medium weight moisturizer, very barrier supportive, very moisturizing, and my skin just drinks it up. Looking at the ingredients like I said, it has everything that I love. There's five different types of ceramides and these ceramides are actually delivered into the skin in a capsule."
    Nourishing Moisturizers for Fall! 🍂
"This is going to be great for folks with a combination leaning dry skin type. Also good for folks who are dehydrated, anybody looking to help strengthen up their skin barrier. As the fall season has really started to take effect, especially at night time and the temperatures are really starting to drop, I've actually switched over to using this cream in my night routine. I was using it in the spring and I brought it back into my routine at night time and my skin is like, 'Thank you, Kelly. This is exactly what your combo dry dehydrated skin needs as we are getting deeper into the fall months.' The ingredients here are very barrier supportive. We have five different types of ceramides in here. Five different types of ceramides, which are also combined with some cholesterol content as well as fatty acids. Those are the three lipids."
3 Skincare Secrets to a Strong Barrier in Fall | AD ft haruharu wonder
"This has the ceramide content, the cholesterol, the fatty acids in here, and the ceramides are actually encapsulated in this cream. You see these little white flakes, this actually keeps the ceramide content really fresh and efficacious and a little bit more potent for the skin. This has a nice rich cream texture, really silky and luxurious. [...] A really nice rich silky cream texture, really beautiful moisturization, comforting, soothing, nourishing, and it really softens the skin on top. You get just the tiniest bit of glow, a kiss of glow from this moisturizer in the finish. It's really great if your skin leans a little bit more drier and you need more richness and nourishment in your skincare routine."
Which Fragrance Free Haruharu Wonder Moisturizer is Right For You?
"This is incredibly luxurious, any dry areas will definitely be relieved, smoothed, softened and soothed with this. When your skin is so dry it's almost itchy or your dehydration is so bad that your skin feels inflamed, this is just going to envelop it with that skin soothing moisture. It feels so so good. I'm in love with this one, it's actually my favorite. The moisture that it brings has an elegance, it has a style to it. It's not really heavy or greasy and it just feels really amazing. I love a good ceramide moisturizer, this is a good ceramide moisturizer, I might even almost want to call it a great ceramide moisturizer quite honestly. It really does keep your skin barrier strong, it really does soothe dryness on the skin and it does it with style and with elegance and without feeling heavy and weighed down."
    Yay
"I have been using this overnight and been loving [...] it. The name indicates it has five different types of ceramides, which is incredible. It's very rare that I find products that utilize that many ceramides in a formula, so it's already kind of starting off on a more luxury high quality base. But to add on to that, this also has ginseng extract, a very common ingredient used in luxury skincare to fight against premature aging. And an ingredient that really intrigued me called phytoinosine, which is a good ingredient for helping to fight against any acne, breakouts, or blocked pores, which is really unique to have in a formula like this because most of the time when it comes to really rich ceramide heavy, nourishing products, they tend to not really address the potential of breakouts, pimples, or acne. But this one does, which is one of the reasons that I love using it overnight because not only am I getting that really deep moisturizing power, but it's also helping to make sure that I don't potentially break out, whether it be from an overabundance of moisturizer on my face or normal blocked pores."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

    Source: DermNet

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

    Source: DermNet

    Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
