What they liked

  • Lightweight, watery texture like a moisturizer
  • No white cast, applies smoothly
  • Slightly glossy finish, moisturizes well

What they flagged

  • Can irritate eyes, being a chemical sunscreen

What the gurus are saying

This watery, lightweight texture stands apart with no white cast and clean application. The slightly glossy finish can feel like too much glow under makeup for those with oily skin, and some gurus note it can drift into eyes since it's a chemical sunscreen. For normal to dry skin, it earns praise for being affordable and lightweight.

"I bought this from Yes Style, the Heartleaf Calming Moisture Sunscreen from Goodal, SPF 50 plus PA4 Plus. This is a true Korean market sunscreen, and it's more cosmetically elegant than the versions that will be made just for the US market. A lot of Americans are realizing they might lose access to sunscreens like the one I'm currently applying, once Olive Young stops shipping from their global site."

"This one isn't as popular outside of Korea, but here it's very affordable. Compared to the other one, the texture also feels really watery, like an easy moisturizer, so if you like that kind of texture, you can also try this."

"The Goodal sunscreen is so famous it's the only one that's sold out. It's a chemical sunscreen that contains heartleaf extract, which helps with a calming effect, and it feels amazing, similar to the famous Round Lab sunscreen. It just moisturizes and applies well with no white cast, and the finish is slightly glossy. If you have oily skin and it's summer, you might feel like it's too much glow under makeup, so I recommend it more to normal to dry skin. Some of the reviews mention it can get into your eyes, since it's a chemical sunscreen."

"It feels nice, feels kind of silky. It has a little bit of a light white cast to it but once it soaks in it kind of fades away. It feels really nice. The sunscreen's nice, I like it. It has a little bit of a cast on it but it feels nice, not too tacky. I don't really see anything else too exciting aside from the heartleaf, vitamin E is about it. And it has no scent which I love, feels nice."

"I have been raving about this sunscreen for years at this point now it really is one of my favorites for its lightweight feel and I often classify this as a weightless type of sunscreen. I really cannot stand heavy feeling sunscreens especially in the summer especially for my daily sunscreen and something that I'm going to use underneath makeup right and so this fits the bill perfectly. It has this really gorgeous lotion like texture to it, you know they do call it a sun cream but I just don't agree with the word cream. Cream in my mind thinks like something much more emollient heavier moisturizing even shiny right and this is so much more airy and lotion like. It applies in a really beautiful thin but even layer on the skin it does absorb and dry quite quickly in my opinion and it has a very mild dew finish to it, you know semi dew finish if you will. It's not dewy not full-on it's not a glass skin kind of sunscreen and it's definitely not a shiny sunscreen. There's just a little hint of a dew but it's really not too much in my opinion and it's so weightless it feels so incredible."

"I really love the Goodal Heartleaf Calming Moisture Sun Cream, it's SPF 50 PA++++. It contains four different chemical filters to achieve that protection. I fell in love with it a couple of years ago because it is a very protective, very comfortable type of sunscreen and it's light. It's more of that cream gel type of sunscreen texture rather than a lotion or a traditional straight cream texture. It's not heavy, it's not overly moisturizing. It's one of those few sunscreens that I would describe as, I can put it on my face and forget that I put it on because it's not something that's reminding me that it's on my face, like it's heavy, super greasy, or making my skin kind of itchy or my eyes sting or it's peeling. It's just that really nice light refreshing texture that doesn't weigh my skin down and doesn't cause any issues with white cast or peeling or stinging or itchy irritated skin. I just love the formula, I just love the texture. It doesn't contain hyaluronic acid, which seems to be creeping into quite a few different sunscreens these days. Ingredients-wise it really checks out, but I just love this for the performance."

No Niacinamide Skincare Picks!
"One of my favorite recommendations for niacinamide free sunscreen is the Goodal Heartleaf Calming Moisture Sun Cream. This is SPF 50+ PA++++, using four all new generation chemical filters. It's so important to know that this is an option if you're looking for niacinamide free sunscreens because niacinamide tends to creep into sunscreens, especially due to its antioxidant capabilities. This one has antioxidant content, they're just not using niacinamide. I really love the texture of this sunscreen. It's kind of like that cream gel texture that applies to the skin and that really lightweight layer to the point where it's so comfortable, it's so breathable. It's like you forget that you're actually wearing sunscreen because it just feels that darn comfy on the skin, which I so appreciate. I'm really starting to become somebody who just wants that sunscreen that's so effortless, that's not super creamy."
10 Simple and Gentle Skincare Products!
"This is a chemical sunscreen that uses four all-new generation chemical filters to create the protection. The ingredients are very minimal. A lot of especially Korean sunscreens will pack in a lot of plant extracts, which we've pretty much avoided for the most part. They'll pack in niacinamide, which can actually be helpful for sunscreen formulation, but some people are just really wanting to avoid multiple niacinamide products layered in each and every day, so there's no niacinamide in here, no hyaluronic acid in here. It's really simple, straight to the point, and I love the texture of this too because I find it so uncomplicated."
