What they liked

  • Hydrating and helps with hyperpigmentation
  • Lightweight texture, good for oily skin
  • Affordable at twelve dollars

What they flagged

  • Small bottle, doesn't last long
  • Light hydration, may need a moisturiser in winter

What the gurus are saying

This lightweight treatment tackles body hyperpigmentation and leaves skin glowing, and at twelve dollars it's a steal. The formula suits oily skin well since it skips heavy butters and waxes for just jojoba oil, which means it won't lock in moisture as much as richer balms, so those in dry climates or heading into winter may want to layer it with a heavier moisturizer. The bottle runs small, so it won't stretch far if you're treating large areas.

"One of the reasons why body discoloration products can be a little challenging is you have to be so patient and you have to be consistent, because the percentage of the active that you would need to really make a difference in your skin I have not seen sold over the counter. There's a huge difference between using products on the small area of your face and using those type of actives all over your body. Keep in mind it's going to take some time and some consistency, and discoloration treatments like this are geared more towards the superficial, level one kind of discoloration."

"Their Discoloration Correcting Body Treatment I do enjoy this one. I think I neglect my body a little bit but I have hyperpigmentation all over my face and equally I've got it on everywhere in my arms. I've got sandal mark hands from 30 years ago that still are stubborn but this seems to help a little bit and it's hydrating."

"The good molecules discoloration body treatment is even more affordable, it's twelve dollars. It's got niacinamide, tranexamic acid, and salicylic acid, which I love as an oily skin girly because it really helps go inside the pores and declutter anything that could potentially cause acne. Whenever I used this lotion I really enjoyed it, my skin was glowing when I used it. I will say it doesn't last very long, it doesn't have a lot of product in it. This one is a lot more oily skin friendly, it doesn't have shea butters or waxes, it just has jojoba oil, so it wouldn't protect your skin from losing water as much as the other one, especially this winter season. It's very light and airy, and it's amazing if you have more oily skin."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
