What the gurus are saying

This liquid's 10% glycolic acid and 2% lactic acid blend helps shed dead skin cells and increase cell turnover, earning praise for tackling sun-triggered hyperpigmentation in particular. The small bottle lasts well with twice-weekly use, and the liquid format suits both cotton-pad and direct application. With regular use at these concentrations and pH, the glycolic acid may help build collagen and thicken skin over time.

"First up is the Geek and Gorgeous Smooth Out liquid exfoliant. This one has 10% glycolic acid and 2% lactic acid. Also contains prickly pear extract, panthenol, and xylitol, which are all three great soothing ingredients. This one is literally a liquid, you can just pat it onto skin. This little bottle, probably an ounce, lasts me quite a while. You get a ton out of it. If you put it on a cotton pad, it won't go as far, but if you just use it as a liquid and pat it on, a little bit of it goes a long way. No scent, no fragrance, no alcohol, it's wonderful. Geek and Gorgeous has three different exfoliants, but if you're looking for anti-aging out of all three, this is the one you want to go to."

How to Scientifically Reduce Hyperpigmentation, Dark Spots, PIH & Melasma Step By Step
"For an exfoliant for brightening, my general recommendation is going to be glycolic acid, typically at a pH between three and four and in an amount about 10%. One that I like is the Geek and Gorgeous Smooth Out. It contains glycolic acid as well as lactic acid. It's in the proper pH. It's got 10% glycolic acid, 2% lactic acid, and with time, glycolic acid can help with collagen production in skin as well as improving hyperpigmentation. These are not products you want to add into your routine all at once. You want to slowly add these in over time and be patient, because typically the skin cycle is 30 days, but to notice the benefits with hyperpigmentation can take two, three months, and sometimes the more damage or the worse the hyperpigmentation is, the longer it will take to fix it."
Better Than The Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Resurfacing Glycolic Night Serum - Dupes & Alternatives
"Here's another one where I've got the big size, so keep that in mind, it's not the little one. The big size is 3.38 ounces. In here it's got a 12% blend of glycolic and lactic acid, so we're missing the BHA, but it's still very effective and efficient. I think it might be worth some people checking out. This one's not a dupe, but it's an alternative, and it's wonderful. I really love this brand."
Geek & Gorgeous Top Picks 🙌🤗😍 Effective, Affordable, Science Based Skincare Favorites
"If you're looking for anti-aging or anything like that, their Smooth Out is the way to go. Alpha hydroxy acids are proven to help thicken the skin as long as it's within the proper pH and the percentage. You want about 10 percent; this has got about 12 percent in it. So their Smooth Out liquid exfoliant is a good similar alternative to the Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Glycolic Serum, which I think now is about 10 percent. It's a nice alternative to that. The nice thing with these is they come in pretty large bottles, they're all waterlike texture, and the pH is spot on. You can apply it by patting it onto your skin or with a cotton pad, dampen it on the cotton pad, whichever you prefer. If you're looking for anti-aging, AHAs are just totally proven to be great for firming up skin, which is what we need when we get older and our skin kind of needs that little bit of help. This one's great."

"Twice a week I use glycolic acid, the Smooth Out from Geek and Gorgeous. It has a higher strength of glycolic acid than I used over summer, and the AHAs are responsible for helping the dead skin cells slough off, so they help me increase cell turnover and get rid of the cells that have the melanin that was triggered during summer."
