What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise this as an affordable, high-performing retinoid that delivers visible results on fine lines, wrinkles, and skin firmness with manageable irritation across most skin types. The cream base and tiered strength options are appreciated for accessibility and customization. The main caveat is that acne-prone skin may struggle with comedogenic ingredients like oils and alcohols, though some note the retinoid component may offset this. Overall reception is strongly positive, with reviewers calling it hard to beat for the price.

"It helps with fine lines and wrinkles, smooth texture, maybe helps with skin tone a bit, skin elasticity, skin firmness. I would even say they may have underpromised a little bit. I find this one works pretty good with fine lines and wrinkles. The nice thing is this will work well for most skin types, including dry and oily. For acne-prone skin, there are a few ingredients of note though, haba oil, vitamin E, cetyl alcohol, stearic alcohol, glycerol, and carbomer, some of those are very comedogenic, so if you have acne-prone skin, this may not be the best, although the retinyl may kind of cancel some of those out. At $35 for 1.7 oz, this is pretty in line with the price of alternatives when you do an apples-to-apples comparison."

The Ordinary New! Retinal 0.2% Emulsion Serum Review, How to Use, Dupes/ Alternatives
"I really have a preference for the Geek and Gorgeous A-Game. It's a little bit larger size than this one but it's still overall affordable. The Geek and Gorgeous A-Game comes in 5 and 10 in terms of strength. My preference to all of those alternatives is the Geek and Gorgeous A-Game."

"One of my absolute favorites is the Geek and Gorgeous A-Game. It comes in three different strengths: the five, the 10, and the 20. The 20 is really up there in terms of strength, so you're going to get some great outcomes, and because of the formulation, you shouldn't get too much side effects and irritation. I would recommend starting with the lower strength and working your way up. It's proven to increase the rate of collagen and elastin production and also help the collagen we already have work a little bit more effectively."

"The Geek and Gorgeous A-Game is an affordable retinol. It's a retinoid because over the counter, usually quite affordable if you go with the right brand, and much more high performance than retinol but less sensitizing on the skin. Getting an affordable retinoid now in a cream base is amazing and this is the best of the best. If you want an oil base, if you like a little extra hydration, you want an oil-based retinoid, then obviously other brands are going to be for you. If you prefer your retinol in a cream base, then the Geek and Gorgeous is gonna work. It comes to personal preference, there's no right or wrong, do what works for you and what you enjoy. This is stunning and still hard to beat."

"The best vitamin A on the market for skin of color is Geek and Gorgeous A-Game. It's got 0.05% retinaldehyde and 0.05% retinol, and it's £12.90, so it's the cheapest that I could find."
