What the gurus are saying

The gurus who reviewed this one split sharply. One expert found significant issues: the vitamin C concentration is very low (a fraction of a percent, which means it likely won't deliver meaningful brightening), plus it contains alcohol and fragrance in a non-airless bottle that may let the active degrade. Another expert took a gentler view, noting that Garnier's low concentration might actually suit people new to vitamin C who need to test whether the ingredient works for their skin at all. That said, anyone considering it may want to patch-test first and watch for irritation, and if vitamin C is new to them, starting with a low-concentration formula like this one to gauge tolerance makes sense before moving to stronger versions.

"This product is actually a disaster. There are no positives with this product. They've added in alcohol, DH alcohol. It's got tiny percentage vitamin C, like a fraction of a percent. It's got fragrance and it's not in an airless pump. This one is definitely not worth your time and money."

"Vitamin C is one of the best antioxidants that is available, but not everyone vitamin C suits. You really need to figure out, start with something like a low concentration. Maybe experiment with a Garnier, or you can experiment with something else. If you get rashes or irritation with something which is as low as 3 percent and 5 percent, then vitamin C is not for you. But if vitamin C suits you, try using gentle vitamin C's like a 3 to 5 percent. And then move up to a 10, 15, and by the time you are around 25, you can literally go to a 15 and 20 percent. So start incorporating the right antioxidant for you. Look at different formulas and consistently use them for months and months together."
