What the gurus are saying

This cleanser breaks down makeup effectively, but several gurus found it left their skin uncomfortably dry after just days of use. One reviewer's skin became so parched that eyelids and under-eyes turned red and crusty, and the dryness cleared only after stopping the product. If your skin tends toward dryness, patch-testing first makes sense, though not many gurus have weighed in yet.

"Right now I'm using the Garnier oil infused micellar water. But you know what? It's actually not my favorite. I prefer Bioderma's version, but because I'm doing a low buy winter, I'm making a very conscious effort to use what I already have rather than replacing."

"It did break down my makeup really well, to be fair, but after using it for about a day to a week I realized that my skin was becoming incredibly dry. [...] It was the only thing I changed, and as soon as I cut it out my skin went back to normal. Everywhere was drying, my eyelids were dry, under eyes are dry, and you know when you get dry under eyes and it starts to get a bit red. [...] These lids were dry because they just love to be dry, it was horrendous, it was so crusty and dry."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
