What the gurus are saying

This fluid sunscreen applies smoothly and transparently, earning praise for its light texture and dewy finish that layers well over skincare. However, the chemical formula can sting eyes during activity, though a dusting of powder over the eyes before application stops the irritation. At under seven euros, it's a budget-friendly option, though some gurus prefer similar European formulas for comfort.

"It has an almost identical ingredient list to the Eucerin and is definitely meant to be a dupe, but they are manufactured in different countries. This is manufactured in Germany, so I would guess that they probably use some different ingredient suppliers, so they are not going to be completely identical. But if you miss the old invisible fluid, this is probably the next closest thing. It's fragrance-free, it's lightweight, it's non-greasy, and it is just really lovely and smooth to apply. It says it's anti-eye stinging, which was true in my experience. I found this a bit more matte and less oily than I expected, which was a really pleasant surprise. The downsides, which honestly aren't really much of a downside: there's a slight sunscreen smell and it is pretty runny. It is a fluid, but it's not ridiculous. It is still pretty manageable and doesn't make a massive mess. Also, the packaging is pretty neat. It is Omar approved. My husband Omar hates sunscreens that can explode in his bag, and the nozzle is really impressive compared to a whole bunch of sunscreens with similar nozzles. This nozzle just doesn't seem to be very messy. There is no sunscreen on the threads."

"This is the second bottle of this that I've gone through. This is the Garnier Anti-Dark Spots and Anti-Pollution Super UV SPF50 Fluid, another European sunscreen. The other two that I talked about were Korean sunscreens, so you can get the Korean sunscreens pretty easily online, but this one is limited to Europe, UK. That's usually where I pick up these kinds of sunscreens. I enjoyed this one, don't enjoy it as much as the ISDIN, not as much, but I like this. It's nice and light and fluid and great to wear on top of your skincare routine if you want something that's light."

"This is a very typical chemical sunscreen with that fluid texture that you would expect. It goes on the skin pretty much transparent. It's definitely a dupe for the La Roche Posay sunscreen, but this leaves you with a bit more of a dewy finish. However, this stung my eyes a bit when I was being active. It didn't break me out or anything like that, but I'm not used to a chemical sunscreen that stung my eyes for a really long time. This does smell like your typical sunscreen, like a day at the beach. But it's 6.99, it's a bit of a bargain. You can do a bit of powder over your eyes when you apply this and it stops that stinging sensation."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
