What the gurus are saying

Gurus recognize Fraxel as effective for texture refinement and softening fine lines, particularly around the lips, with visible results persisting several months. The major deterrent is substantial downtime (about a month) and the invasiveness of the procedure. A critical concern emerges for those with melasma, as the laser's intensity can trigger flares in pigmentation-prone skin. Enthusiasm skews toward those willing to endure recovery for noticeable texture improvement.

"I did a couple of lasers that I thought were Fraxel in Italy, and I do think that made a little bit of a difference. Where I saw the most difference maybe was with lip lines. I did see a difference immediately after and maybe for six months following, where they were softened a little bit. It's not something honestly I would want to do every six months because it's quite invasive. I had about a month's downtime from it."

"Other lasers that are more aggressive like a Fraxel laser can actually flare somebody's melasma."

"I currently get the occasional Fraxel treatment and it resurfaces the texture of our skin similar to if you are using a Dermaplane tool, of course not at that depth. A laser is going to go much deeper and give you a much better surface retexturizing than a Dermaplane tool. The idea is to improve our mature skin by addressing texture. When you address texture it increases the smoothness of your skin and the light reflects differently, giving a more youthful appearance and a better glow to your skin. If you want to take it one more step and give your skin a glow and reduce the texture in your skin, try some light Fraxel treatments."
