What they liked

  • Delightful to use
  • Heat and cooling settings

What they flagged

  • LED too weak
  • Not clinically proven
  • Expensive mask replacements

What the gurus are saying

The LED strip produces so little light that it can't deliver measurable benefits, despite being marketed as a core feature. Gurus found no clinical evidence backing the device and flagged that the tiny light intensity can't be compared to standard LED masks. The expense compounds quickly with mandatory replacements of proprietary sheet masks. While the heat and cooling create a pleasant pamper experience, reviewers moved on to actual LED masks that provide real results.

"I did a top five and a bottom five, and I included the UFO as one of my bottom five, so personally I would not recommend it. I think it's more of a fancy pamper tool in my personal opinion, versus something that's really scientifically backed. You can like it, it's fine to enjoy the pamper aspect of it, but for me I have several devices where there's both a pamper session and clinical data supporting the device, and that's the main reason I'm not a big fan of the UFO."

Skincare Devices I Still Use (& Devices I Regret!)
"But I do regret it because I feel the way it's marketed is a little confusing. It claims to have LEDs, but you can't compare a moving LED device to the published literature, which looks at masks held against the skin at a close proximity for a specific period of time. You just can't guess how long these LEDs are sitting on your skin or their intensity. [...] This was a really fun and enjoyable device, but [...] the truth is once I upgraded to LED masks [...] I just don't reach for this anymore."

"They say it uses LED lights in the same way as proven treatments and therefore it's equally effective, however the red lights or LED lights on that little Foreo UFO device [...] are so small and they spend so little time on your skin you're really not going to get much benefit. [...] It's a novelty. [...] Even more brilliant with that UFO device you get, you have to buy the mask things each time you use it so you get a repeat customer every time you want to use it."

"Forget the cryotherapy, the LED on this thing is a joke. It's a small little strip of LED that they try to claim has benefits to the skin. This thing is barely powerful enough to get light into the skin. Not to mention when I actually tried to sign up for it, it had me sign up in Russian, that it wouldn't connect to my app, it was just a disaster. Foreo does have some good products, they do have like a couple facial cleansing devices that are nice, but the UFO was a disaster."

"The Foreo UFO is a piece of crap device. I lost the charger and Foreo makes their chargers so unique that nothing else will plug into them, so now it's just become an even more obnoxious paperweight that I can't even charge."
10 Luxury Skincare SWAPS - Buy This Not That!
"This is an LED device that doesn't LED, it gets hot and cold. [...] You're supposed to put sheet masks on it and [...] swap out the sheet masks, but the sheet masks are very expensive. [...] The sides get goopy, and there's no way to clean it. This side doesn't even work. [...] This is the only side that does anything. The little LED light thingy it barely lights up at all. Tell me how that is giving me good skin support."
